Water: starring Lisa Ray and John Abraham

My most anticipated Indian movie of the year (and one of my most anticipated movies of the year, period) is Deepa Mehta's Water. It is the last part of her trilogy about India (the first was Fire which was a lesbian love story, and the second was Earth, which dealt with the trauma of Partition). Water deals with the plight of widows. It is ( Read more... )

I've seen Fire-- it's one of my all-time favorite films. I didn't know the writer had done two more films on India. Water sounds like it will be amazing. I'll keep my eye out for it. Awesome.

Yes, Fire was great (and caused huge controversy in India, of course). If you decide to seek out "Earth" it's very worthwhile as well.

And yeah, I hope Water is as good!

I've seen Earth and it was too awesome. Aamir did such a good job, even though he was freaky in the ending.

Water looks really cool, looks like Lisa will do a good job! :)

Earth was really good AND really disturbing. IMO, Aamir's best performance. I also loved Nandita Das and Rahul Khanna in it.

Yup, it's historical. It's set in the 1940s, as far as I am aware.

And yes, indeed, on John Abraham!

LOL at the B&P icon :)

I've only seen Lisa Ray in "Bollywood/Hollywood." The movie itself was eminently forgettable but I remember being struck with her.

I can't wait to see her paired with John Abraham. She has a certain sort of steely fragility (if it makes any sense) which would be a really good match with his usual intelligent cynical romantic (or a bad guy with feelings)thing.

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. I am really looking forward to this movie. It is supposed to open at the Toronto Film Festival!
