Gay 70s activists and Korean Hana Yori Dango. Nothing in common except bad fashion!

Saw Milk yesterday (the movie, not the white liquid people drink). It was an entertaining enough way to spend 2 hours and $10 but good acting notwithstanding, I fail to see the fuss over it - except for the fact that it was about a gay person, it was a stultifyingly conventional biopic, sort of a 'watch and forget' kind of a movie. But then, the ( Read more... )

I only read the first volume of the manga and a couple episodes of the anime before losing interest so I can't compare to that very much. I always like to see new adaptations of things though, as long as they're done well. I'm actually relieved after seeing the pictures of Makino in character. She looks more useful than I thought she would.

Ah, I meant to say "youthful" and not "useful" about Makino.

But it's hard for me to see anyone but the 3 Japanese actors (Rui, Makino and Doumyouji). For one, Akira (name, I'm not sure) played Domyouji (also don't know spelling, lol) so funkily and strange and great. This guy looks too cocky. And Mao played Makino so innocent, yet argumentative yet shy. And Rui was just love with his unapologetic laziness and book reading and. . .the way he always said MA-kino.

Aw, it'll take a while to get used to it.

Actually, this actor looks a lot more like manga Domyouji than did Matsujun so I am excited. Now, hopefully the script is good...

The clothes! This drama is being done by Group Eight, so yes the fashion will make us want to poke our eyes out. But, the director did direct Delightful Girl and My Girl, so that gives me some hope.

Can we talk about about Joon Pyo/Domyouji and his hair for a minute? It looks like a middle-aged woman's perm! Freakishly rich people really do have no taste.

And despite the cute haircut, Koo Hye Sun still does not look like a high school student. She's very cute, but she still looks mature. The guys still look younger.

Mimasaka "My character is sort of a spare so I will desperately try to get attention by wearing my grandma's shirt" Akira:

lol. Does Akira ever get something to do? He's really just there for the pretty.

Group 8 did the atrocious Goong S, right? Yikes. But they do have a ton of money.

Akira is never never ever allowed to do anything useful.

According to my sources (dramawiki) Group Eight is the company behind the awful Goong S, the upcoming, often delayed The Return of Iljimae, and the (also) often delayed Boys Before Flowers. That's it. I honestly don't have much faith in this production company. They've done three projects in two years; one was horrible and the other two have been delayed at least three times, each.

Akira is just there because F4 sounds better than F3. Akira needs some drama, but he gets nothing.
