I am WRECKED. Damn it. DAMN IT. Damn it. The ending makes sense, it does. In fact, I think it is the only way the drama could have possibly ended in terms of the world the characters lived in. There is no way HGD & his band of merry men and women could exist in that world because they are too radical, too ready to rebel against authority ... There was no half-way for him. He didn't know how to compromise or play the political game and he didn't want to. The fact that he kept saying he would he fight against the King's world was him writing his own death sentence. But damn it. That final scene with the arrows ... and the ashes and the I love you. *bawls

The ending of HGD wrecked me for ages. I kept crying :(
And it's true, it's the only way it could have ended: that world had no give in it and Gil Dong did not want to compromise. But at least (I am sort of clinging to it) they had that happy winter together. The scenes of them all happy, despite knowing they were doomed just got me so badly.
