Last night in Bangkok :) (and a bit on Smile Again)

We didn't go see a Muay Thai match after all, but sort of conked out except for a fancy buffet dinner with lobster, oyster, fish, meat, and every desert known to man (I got 15 and rated them in order of taste. Mr. Mousie thought it was very weird as he is not a desert-obsessed woman :P ( Read more... )

I love when Kdramas go on location, and Smile Again is such a good example of using the location to infuse a different sort of characteristic to the drama. And you know, I never thought about the Talented Mr. Ripleyish aspect of it, but you're right - LDG's character longing for a life he never had and the lies and the different person he has to become to get close to that life. Well, without the murder and the homoerotic overtones, anyway.

It's been a terrible start of the year for poor LDG - he broke up with Han Ji Hye, he got expelled from his school for low attendance, and then his baby brother - yeah. I only hope his agency gives him the time he needs.

I did get a bit of homoerotic overtones in the beginning, but that is because I hang out with too many slashers.

But yeah, LDG was envious but not a sociopath.

Apparently his new drama is still on as scheduled. That's crazy. I hope they don't start filming too soon.

It's already your last night? That seems to have went by fast. So glad you're having a good time. I may also be going there sometime in the next year, so I'll use your LJ as a point of reference. hee. How did you guys come up with your itinerary?

I finished Smile Again last week. I love me some LDG. I really, really love him. I haven't finished Sweet 18 (I've been on the third episode for months now) and I never really saw his appeal. But through Smile Again, I spent most of the series thinking "he's so cute" "Wow, he's handsome" "What an attractive man". lol. I definitely see why you would compare it to QSS, I'd even go so far as to say that it has a similar vibe to MiSa but in a less heartbreaking, effed up manner.

I have to say that while I did really like the heroine, I didn't always believe her (Kim Hee-seon's portrayal) and that towards the latter episodes I was getting kind of bored with her storyline. But I really appreciated her normalcy and no-nonsense attitude even when she was upset about Ha Jin. My type of heroine.

Well, we wanted to see Bangkok (we did everything we wanted there in four days, btw) and Chiang Mai because of temples and ruins (two days was plenty but if you want to do trekking from there, much more is necessary) and Ayutthaya is worth a day. Lots of things we didn't get to see because of time constraints: beaches, Sukkothai etc.

Yeah, the heroine was cool but also not one I fell for. No idea why.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. You did a lot considering your time limit.

I didn't fall for either and I think it's the actress. She just wasn't as good as she could have been. There were many times when I didn't know if she was purposefully trying to be expressionless or not.

I'm so jealous. I haven't been overseas in 11 years.
