Reading and Watching

Jan 30, 2008 16:01

In a little vacuum after Legend (and before it took over, as well), in-between watching the airbrushed angst of Beautiful Days (seriously, Hero. Just ditch the family and move to Canada, Australia, or Brazil. You’ll be much happier), I have also tried watching/reading various things that I haven’t posted about before, with various degrees of ( Read more... )

movies, 1 pound no fukuin, robbers, romeo & juliet, angel, beautiful days, doramas, hong gil dong, books, legend, legend of hyang dan

Hee, Stephen Chow films usually are LOLtastic.

Legend of Hyang Dan has a Suju member and dramabeans.com (whose taste I can agree with 80% of the time) really liked it so I'm def checking it out. But sometimes timing is everything. Watching something you're not in the mood doesn't work out for me at all, ever (unless whatever I'm watching turns out to be something I *am* in the mood for).

See, dramabeans prefaces her liking for HD with

I say this as someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy Korean historical dramas or films, no matter how good they are purported to be But that is the thing, I do. (Browsing dramabeans' site, we don't seem to have very many dramastastes in common though. I love my angst and she doesn't seem to ( ... )

I think I'm 50-50 with dramabeans' taste.. I'm more prone to enjoying slapsticky comedy than her but not into typical kdrama angst like her.

Her ratings are here, btw: http://www.dramabeans.com/about/ratings/

She intro'ed me to Que Sera Sera and Flowers for My Life, both of which I loved (though haven't finished yet), for which I'm very grateful.

Regardless I get what you're saying.

Thanks for the links! Yeah, makes sense.

Did you ever finish QSS btw? I am sort of considering starting on it next week.

I think Cordy just fares much, much better when not surrounded by other teenagers. In Buffy, she's the most self-centered one in a group of self-centered teenagers, so it stands out. In Angel, she's the self-centered but cheerful "kid" of the group, and has the added benefit of full access to all kinds of angst to mock.

She also starts changing dramatically(but believably) late in the season.

Please. She could have started out far, far, far worse.

She could have been Kennedy.

The Cygnet books really are very good. If you end up liking them, you should also read her "Riddle-Master of Hed" trilogy, if you haven't read it yet. It's excellent.

I'm watching Robbers too. I enjoyed the first couple of episodes (1-2) more than the rest that I've seen. It's still fun but there's so much of a hint of doom.. lol. I think in the kdrama department Hong Gil Dong is beating everything else. I think the subs for 7-8 should come soon! YAY!

I was going to check out Legend of Hyang Dan since i read it was cute but I guess I could skip it for now. :)

I like Cordelia much better than I did when I was younger (she is amusing on my screen) but I’d still sic a pit bull on her if I had to deal with her in RL.

Heh. I agree. What I like during the first and second seasons is, while Angel grows to love Cordelia, there are moments where he's genuinely irritated by her.

I remember being impressed as well that Angel failed to save the girl in the pilot. I also remember being frustrated (slightly spoilery) that the show kept importing Buffy characters in the first couple of episodes, but I guess that's to be expected for a spin-off.

I don't mind spoilers :)

I was also impressed that he didn't rescue the girl.
