Yes, agree agree agree. I thought when you said i write fanfiction based on manipulations and interpretations of the characters they present to the media and the public it was particularly relevant to how many of us read and interpret fanfiction, and so much of the problem within the 1D fandom seems to come from the fact that many people within this fandom think these characters are the actual boys (and their relationships), whether that is true or not. I think that's always a bit of a problem with RPF, distinguishing between the real and fictionalised versions of celebrities. I had read a bit of RPF in other fandoms (Social Network primarily) so maybe it was a bit easier for me to distinguish between the 'real person' and the 'character' that the boys (as you said) present to the media and what essentially becomes part of the fanon ( ... )

exactly. and i think it's really indicative of how young this fandom is, on average? believing in celebrity personas is dangerous because it leads to irrational opinions on how they actually are as people which are almost never true and it's just. it leads to shit like this and shit like stalking their family homes and just. it's dangerous and not cool. private lives are extremely important, especially to those who live in the public spotlight and it all just sucks and i hate everything.

anyway. i love this comment and totally agree. thank you.
