I'm sorry to hear you didn't really enjoy the book as much as you'd hoped and that the writing wasn't as good. There could be some truth in what you say: Maybe it’s because I read the book during that odd week between Christmas and New Year’s when everything seems a bit “off.”
I certainly know what you mean.
At least you did get another book out of that pesky folder *g*
It wasn’t a badly written book, and I’m glad I finally read it. But, to add to the list of “maybes,” the next book in the series is rarher pricey, compared to the current (and I suspect past) price of this one. And I really don’t like snakes.
I can see why you didn't enjoy the book as much as you would have liked. To me, it seems that the author stretched possibilities to their limit. A cheating husband, a stepson that causing trouble and who inexplicably is left behind by his natural father. The death of the old man. How much more could happen to one person?
A lot of things do tend to pile up on the main characters of cozy mysteries. For me, it’s how the main character handles all those things, rather than the things themselves, that make or break a book. I didn’t particularly like how this main character handled things. Not that she was really unlikeable … just kind of little girlish. I guess I’m too old for that.

I can understand the non-liking of snakes; I'm not keen on them. My big thing is spiders.
