Especially when someone is not a very good business woman. As in, so desperate not to offend anyone in the community that she spent hours creating a special order of dark chocolates for some lady … and then gave the lady her money back when she complained the dark chocolate she ordered wasn’t sweet enough.
The reasons you give for giving the book a so-so rating is the reason I tend to stay away from romance stories. There's so much wrong in the characters', well, characters that it's hard not to think the things will not work out in the long run. Especially since they don't usually know each other all that well. We don't get to read about that, of course, as the curtains usually close at a kiss. Like with lee_the_t , the practicalities get in the way for me. Glad you enjoyed it enough!
It’s not a book I would have read at any other time of year. I do sometimes enjoy a little romance, but I prefer it to be mixed with something more interesting.
I agree with you. I enjoy a romantic story and the ones I usually like are not in the romance category but are stories that contain a romance with more significant plot elements. I have a friend who loves straight-up romance novels (the historical ones) and I tried a couple and I just couldn't even. They're sexist and terrible, though written by women. But I've certainly read books that have a romance in them that I've enjoyed.
It sounds a nice Christmassy book. Not one I'll bother reading, but it seems to have done what it said on the can. And being worth a few hours of your time is excellent.

I'm too practical minded for these things!
