I had Friday and today off, and spent a lot of it catching up on things I've let slide over the past few months, but I also loafed around the city and saw some friends. Among other things, I went to the farmer's market Saturday morning with D., the baby, the puppydog, and M.. Chatting with a couple of young mothers and their babies outside the ( Read more... )

Ah, but Rodney quoted Butch Cassidy, and for that I will forgive a great deal of exposition...

That was where that came from. It amuses me to think of him viewing himself and John that way.

I continue to wish they'd dial down Martha's infatuation, and to not be able to tell if it's my crotchety old Who perceptions coming through;

As someone who only knows Doctor Who from the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, let me reassure you it's not your crotchety old Who perceptions. I've lost count of how many times I've wanted to smack Martha. I really loved her in the first couple of eps, but then going from strong, independent woman seeking adventures to obsessing over if the Doctor likes her in that way....grrrrrr.

I had tuned out SGA to the point that I missed John referencing the wrong Alien film. Good grief! I was annoyed enough that we had John talking about James Cameron movies two weeks in a row (either he or the writers need to expand their DVD collections), but to screw up like that. Not one SGA person could speak up and say, 'Oh, it's Aliens'? Sigh.

And I'm with you on pretending the third film doesn't exist. Though the director's cut makes it a bit better.

They seem to be going back and forth on it, because on the one hand she does pitch in to do technical work and shows herself to be incredibly capable, and has a teasing ease with the Doctor (I especially liked the glimpses we got of the two of them biding their time in 1969, her grousing about her job in the shop to support him). And often she does so on her own, without the Doctor telling her what to do, and I like that initiative too. But then she has these incongruent moments of being so anxious for his romantic regard, and it's generally done in a really unsubtle way, and that makes me cranky.

Well, apparently Rodney quoted from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, so all is not completely lost. But, yes, I think it's a sign of how little charity I have toward this show that when I saw that ( ... )
