OMG! It's like you're reading JJ's mind. Your rants are the only thing about that show that I enjoy anymore, so thank you for that. Not that I'm bitter!
If a genie gave me three wishes, I would use one of them to kick Dirk Benedict in the balls. Then I would wish for more wishes, so I could do it repeatedly. Or maybe I'd just wish to see Katee Sackhoff kick him in the balls--that might be even better. You know she could so take him, even in his allegedly-fabulously-original-but-really-just-cheap-knockoff-character-creating prime. GOD. What a jackass. ("I don't like looking at myself"?! Who do you think you're fooling, you arrogant fuckwit?)
I really have devoted more energy to detesting Dirk Benedict than he probably deserves.
In happier news, congratulations on your near-complete review draft! And I'm looking forward to the knitting pictures!
Then why aren't I a multimillionaire Hollywood writer, director and producer? *cries*

Hee! Hee hee hee. Of course, there was context missing from Dirk's snide comments about Katee Sackhoff, namely that all of her comments about him were reactions to his complete asshattery at the start of the series. What a moron. I'm normally a very easygoing person, but I think if I saw Dirk Benedict walking down the street I'd have to restrain myself from popping him one in the mouth. My hostility is also all out of proportion.
Ya know, I read the first half of that interview with Dirk and he comes off as an OK guy. Then he starts talking about the show and I'm *almost* speechless.
The destruction of the family is reflected in the new Battlestar Galactica, the dysfunction and the lack of spirituality and the dysfunctional man, the weak man, the drunk man.
Obviously he has not seen a single episode of the show because everything he said above is nowhere apparent in the current incarnation. OK, Tigh is a drunk a lot, but that's one aspect of one character. And how are the men weak? Because they show emotion? And family is one of the foundations of the series - rebuilding it, maintaining it, providing them with a reason to move forward. Lack of spirituality? Does any show talk about God as much as this one does?
and Katee Sackoff got it all wrong, she doesn’t have a clue, she is either brain dead or she must have never read the article. I don't know if I've ever seen one actor be that cruel towards another. I think Ron Moore is pulling back the

Dirk seems to have some serious issues in this area. And he apparently can't deal with a show that has complexity or is anything less than spotless heros fighting the good fight against an entirely evil external enemy. Which means, really, that he's still stuck in the 80s and has no idea what would make successful television in this era, and that's pretty sad. The way he insults Katee Sackhoff is, on the other hand, deeply repugnant; he's been shitty to her from the start, and I think it's another sign of his fragile ego and the way he deals with perceived threats to his masculinity. I would hope they're not even considering hiring him for a part on the new show, because after the way he has acted, I want him to stay far, far away from my show.
Or maybe with offing so many characters (and usually bringing them back) we are all desensitized now. I think it's another result of how repetitive the show has gotten, and the way character deaths have been handled more as cheap tricks

Thanks for the birthday wishes, sweetie. It's been a great one this year, even with the recurring back misery.
I'm feeling glad now I somehow never got into Alias. I remember that it used to be up against something else that I watched which I don't recall now, but I'd always assumed it was something I could come back to later and catch up on. It's heartbreaking to hear people talk about how badly it's fallen because now I know I'll never bother. Sigh...
The Chinese kitchen thing is really interesting, especially since I've always hated those open-plan kitchen. And I do cook a lot of Chinese. Huh. For that kind of cooking, you want easily reachable counter space near the stove and a big ol' extractor fan over it. Sort of like an industrial blast area.
The first two seasons of Alias are awesome, in a cheesetastic, over-the-top sort of way, and I would recommend them to anybody. I would also recommend getting off the rollercoaster at the end of Season 2.
One thing that drives me nuts about my kitchen is that there's a microwave over my stove, so it uses one of those fake vent fans that doesn't really suck air out of the kitchen. If I'm ever able to afford a remodel, I'm going for the full blast hood, because yeah, not having decent venting for high-temperature cooking is awful.
