This whole...thing makes me so angry it affects me physically. And it's not even an isolated incident within our culture, just a well-publicized one. Ugh.

Yeah, pretty much. I have been debating whether to go full-tilt rage and bum everyone out with an LJ post about this because it's just driving me nuts.

That Village Voice thing! I don't even understand how that was published. The official statement is just as clear as it needed to be that she suffered a terribly violent and violating ordeal. No, we do NOT need to know if she was penetrated and how and by who, it doesn't matter how much she was raped, and it takes some balls (literally?) to demand "the details" so we can judge precisely how bad or not-that-bad it was.

P.S. I DEMAND TO KNOW HOW MANY TIMES ANDERSON COOPER WAS PUNCHED, AND WHETHER THEY HIT HIM IN THE FACE OR SHOULDER, BECAUSE THIS IS VITAL TO UNDERSTANDING IF HE WAS REALLY "HIT" OR JUST BEING A BABY.

Yes, it is extremely funny how none of the men who were assaulted while covering Egypt have been asked to give a detailed account of every punch to the kidneys. FOR JOURNALISM.

It's really painful the way something like this can rip the bandages off of our everyday coping strategies.

This story was just a perfect storm of horrible reactions: the victim-blaming angle, the brown-people/Muslims-are-savages angle, the unhinged nastiness from people who already disliked her on the left and right. It's stunning almost ( ... )

I guess I should have been more prepared, after the reaction of many otherwise progressive men to the Assange arrest. News flash, fellows: it's possible to support Assange's cause, and wonder at the timing of the arrest, without minimizing rape accusations or ignoring Assange's extremely creepy history with women! Yeah, RAGE.
