I've been thinking about giving Homicide a try after I finish The Wire. I have seen episodes of Homicide, but it was never able to hook me. Maybe I'll have a better appreciation for the writing now.

The Guild is on my Netflix queue. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in Series 1 before DC.

It sounds like the last few seasons of Homicide are kind of different from the rest. I remember seeing an episode that I thought was quite L&O-esque, which is not the way the first season is at all.

I plan to give Fringe a try this fall, but that's not new, just new to me. I thought the promo for Undercovers looked like a lot of fun, but it's a married-spies show, so may be a caper show too far for you...

I keep hearing great things about Fringe, but.... JJ Abrams. Maybe after the show has finished its run, if everyone says it came to a satisfying end, I will risk it.

I read the book a couple of months ago and found it to be an interesting, gritty read that shows a lot of respect to the men David Simon observed.

The Corner was the same way. I really loved it because it didn't condescend to the subjects, but treated them like rational actors making the best of limited information and very, very limited circumstances, while at the same time showing the way it all fed into a big, miserable cycle.

Oh yes, Hawaii 5-0. It may or may not be terrible, but I'll probably check out at least a few episodes for Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.

I think you just sold me on The Guild, which I've been meaning to watch anyway ever since seeing FD last year.

Luke Perry is listed as a guest on the Whedonverse track this year, though I imagine he would have more to say about Jeremiah than the Buffy movie. Regardless of what he talks about, I of course will have to restrain myself from shrieking "Dylaaaaaaan!" whenever I see him.

It can't possibly be more awkward than the Kristie Swanson/Felicia Day/Charisma Carpenter combo. I hope!

I loved Homicide, back in the day. I actually started watching in season 3, in the second part of a three-parter. The episode in question was so awesome that it completely blew me away, and I was hooked instantly. Given the era, I had to actually wait for reruns and syndication to see the first season. It was worth it. Episodes like "Every Mother's Son" and "A Doll's Eyes" are probably some of the best things ever shown on TV.

I did drift away. At some point (season 5, I think) NBC decided that Kay wasn't pretty enough, so she was replaced with an ex-model. Other favorite characters left as well. And while I worship Frank Pembleton as one of my favorite TV characters ever, he wasn't enough to hold my interest. My understanding is that whether you like the final few seasons is practically a religious issue among fans.

And yeah, Munch was great, wasn't he?

And I forgot to add - Jeffrey Donovan (Michael in Burn Notice) has a great guest starring role in an episode of Homicide called "Thrill of the Kill". Another one of my favorites. Considering what Michael's like, this guest spot is even more fun.

The only episode of the show I'd seen before this was some kind of SVU crossover, and it seemed fairly procedural, though still drastically different in tone from L&O. I wonder if it was from one of those later seasons.
