This show has been making me a nervous wreck for weeks. I like the way you lay it all out. I always enjoy your recaps...except for when you were doing Stargate, of course. :p
But he wasn't ready to counterattack; that was an active act of civil war that he couldn't quite face, and the fact that he couldn't order the attack against the Cylon basestar, knowing that it would in turn fire on the fleet, meant that part of him knew the stakes of the game he was playing.
It came down to one fundamental difference between Gaeta and Zarek. Zarek was willing to go down in a blaze of perceived glory and to take the fleet with him. Gaeta was willing to risk his life and those that chose to follow his lead, but no more. The cost for not standing down was too high.
Nice point about Roslin. She does have her faith back, the faith in the people she's closest to to help lead them. The scriptures and prophecies and her role in them became too much of a crutch. It's unfortunate it took the mutiny to realize what she still had and what she could still yet do for her people, but I'm glad to see Laura Roslin back.

I thought his argument with Zarek was really telling--Gaeta needed to have truth and rightness on his side; Zarek just wanted to win. They were a poorly matched consipiracy in the end; they both wanted enough of the same things, but they were too different.

I think it was queenofthorns who pointed out that here, when Laura ordered the basestar to arm weapons, she was essentially taking on the role of a military leader. Adama, in the meantime, was outside the military hierarchy for a while. So they really have, in some ways, experienced life on the other side. It reinforces my sense that there won't be much of a strict military/civilian divide from here on out.

And hey, my Stargate posts got asta77 into the show, so my work there was done.
