I think what I'm finding so frustrating about this series of episodes, is the lack of understanding why everyone is standing where they are. Maybe I missed it somewhere - quite possible, b/c I mainlined a good portion of season 4.0 in order to watch the second half of the season as they aired - but I want to know why Roslin and Adama changed their tune via Cylons. Also, yes, Gaeta and his rebellion was fairly well-organized, but how did no one hear of it before it happens? I guess it illustrates how out of touch Adama and his people are.
I think they actually set up Laura's changing attitude fairly well, from her time on the basestar and her shared dreams with Caprica and Athena; I also think she's being very utilitarian (sort of like Lee--she doesn't necessarily like it, but it's their best shot). Adama was super, super oblivious in this episode, though. It's not exactly out of character for him to not even consider the possibility that those under him are willing to betray him, but... it has happened before. And I agree that it would be hard to keep a large conspiracy a secret for very long in the close living quarters on those ships.
I guess some of the stuff they're showing is actually explained in the webisodes, like Baltar and Gaeta's bizarre conversation about a pen. I hate that, since I think the episodes should be self-contained.
The mutineers are angry and frightened, and they have Cylons among them, and as far as they're concerned, nobody has paid sufficiently for their suffering yet.
Until I read your comment it hadn't hit me that there was a parallel here with 'Torn', but, in that episode, it was Kara and Tigh who felt that no one could sufficiently understand their suffering and thus they tried to create dissension in the fleet. Adama was more aware of what was going on then, likely because these were people he was close to and OMG, they were being disloyal to him!
I think that's exactly what shaped Adama's awareness of the situation. But I think the tension between wanting to avenge the wrongs and wanting to move forward has been pretty constant throughout the show, in different ways: Adama's decision to shepherd the fleet rather than going down in the war; the insurrection and the tribunals after the occupation; the attitude toward Athena when she was first found out; the Pegasus; and now this mutiny.

The problem is that it's so hard to remember how to do things before you've had a cup of coffee!
"our duty to preserve the Presidio so future generations may use it as the site for Star Fleet Academy."
Now that's just good planning.
