A deadly combination of late Monday night calls and super early Tuesday morning calls has not been kind to my TSCC watching and posting, but this weekend I finally got a chance to catch up on the watching part, and on writing up The X-Files, and last night's call was mercifully short so that I could actually finish the episode afterwards. Behold, ( Read more... )

I start to wonder why people would both feed Mulder leads for his investigations and keep him on such a short leash, and whether they feel like they're better able to keep an eye on him if they keep him in the FBI, but then I ruthlessly stamp out the impulse and spritz myself with Mytharc B Gone and feel much better.

Ahahahaha! Oh, yes, good choice.

I'm sad for you that you had to sit through Ghost in the Machine and Space in the same session, but Fallen Angel is one of my all-time favorites. And Ice is really well done. So perhaps you came out ahead.

Fortunately, I saw "Ghost in the Machine" and "Space" on two different days, and I had asta77 to hold my hand and answer my repeated cries of "What? WHAT?" for the latter. Some of the episodes have been fairly awful, but they're scattered in with good ones, and I have a pretty high tolerance for cheese when it doesn't actively piss me off.

Then you'll be in good shape, as long as you keep that spray bottle within arm's reach. (:

The overall quality of the episode improves a great deal in Season 2. And when they start experimenting with the format some of the best episodes of the series are produced.

I somehow ended up watching Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull with friends this weekend, and when I joked at the beginning of the film that the whole quest was probably about giant aliens, I DID NOT ACTUALLY EXPECT THEM TO MAKE IT BE ABOUT GIANT ALIENS.

REALLY!? ah ha ha ha HA HA! I can't believe GL went there. I initially was very excited for the new sequel as I love those movies, but then the reviews were so bad I didn't bother. That's so hilarious that STARGATE did a story better. Well, this is George Lucas, so perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised.

Edited for clarity. I R NOT A RITER.

REALLY. I could not believe what I was seeing. The Stargate "Crystal Skull" episode had depth and complexity and made sense by comparison.

Honestly, I went in knowing the Indiana Jones movie wasn't that good and I was still disappointed. The fact that they made it giant "extradimensional beings" in order to avoid it just being "space aliens" makes me even more disgusted with the whole thing.

Extradimensional beings--and their FLYING SAUCER.

Can we take a restraining order out against George Lucas? Someone's got to protect the remnants of my childhood here.

Seriously. I bet you could easily take up a collection for that.

(Did you watch the behind-the-scenes documentary? I hope not. It made me angry.)

Now I'm curious! Would you mind expanding on how/why?

There's obviously some kind of syncronicity at work here, as I just watched "Crystal Skull" with the family last Friday evening. My expectations were extremely low, so I was able to find it mildly enjoyable. It was nice to have Karen Allen back, wasted though she was, and Shia LeBoeuf is always cute. But now I want to see the "Stargate" episode. I don't watch that show very often, but I always enjoy it when I do.

They ripped off a Stargate plot--and Stargate did it better

HEE, yes. I watched Indy 4 with two friends who are also huge Stargate fans and we were howling with laughter the entire movie. It was one of the most enjoyable times I've had in a theater, and it certainly wasn't because the movie was good. *g*

At least y'all had a good time, though! Unintentionally funny is certainly better than just plain sucky.

IMO, the other IJ movies are, if you think about it, also pretty ridiculous, but they aren't so baldfaced about it (and to be fair, they pull it off better). Like, as far as I am concerned, if God can melt the Nazis, Russia can be out to harvest alien artifacts. Intellectually, I also like that since the first 3 were updates of 30s action serials, then a way later 4th IJ needed to be an update of alien/cold war paranoia of the 50s.

You know, in my heart of hearts, I know the other movies are ridiculous too. But I was, like, eight at the time, and that makes all the difference in the world. I didn't actually have any problems with the chasing Russians--it was perfect for the period, and I especially liked the way Indy got stuck in an actual nuclear test that set the Cold War mood. But it was pretty dismaying to see my Stargate joke turn into big, explodey, $160-million-dollar-budget reality.
