You know what's worse than rearranging your Monday night so that you can call in for a 9pm conference call with India? Sitting on the line for 10 minutes waiting for other people to join and then realizing that nobody else is going to because--duh!--it was Diwali and the whole India office was on holiday. *facepalm* Thank goodness TSCC wasn't on ( Read more... )

Heee! Ahhh, the early X-Files. You're watching it for the first time? You've got fun times ahead of you. Since it's one of the earlier shows filmed in Vancouver (and featuring your usual cadre of actors from the Canadian Actor Bingo), I had pleasure of catching up SG-1 and other various Vancouver shows several years later and going "OMG, it's that guy from X-Files! Dude, the Cigarette-Smoking Man! It's the Pusher! The Agent so-and-so!"

I've seen scattered episodes here and there--and, of course, heard the rants of many a disenchanted fan (which I find very entertaining, because the bitterness this show engendered just makes people so darn detail-oriented in their complaining)--but this will be the first time I'm watching it through, and most of it is new to me.

It is indeed a rich font of Canadian Actor Bingo.

When I was in Vancouver, we actually got a little tour of some of the locations used in the show, so I got to see the hotel, Scully's apartment, etc. Since most of the shows I watch that were shot in Vancouver are science fiction, I don't expect to recognize a lot of buildings, but those woods sure do look familiar.

upon rewatch, I realized that a good 75% of plots from Lois and Clark (ie, Lois investigates some dodgy warehouse, gets trapped, help me Superman!) would be made pointless today because she would have a cell and would just call the police or whatever.

Cell phones are very much one of those paradigm-shifting inventions; the Internet is another one. Mulder and Scully do seem to have access to some bureau databases, so their research process isn't completely baffling, but we take it for granted that you have a lot of information at your fingertips these days, and it shouldn't be a plot point to have to work for it.

Pets in clothing is just WRONG! WRONG I say. ;) Some of those costumes are rather disturbing... Although one of our office dogs is a Boston, and she'd look hilarious in little flippers. Hee!

I'm torn, because on the one hand, yes, dogs haaaaaaate wearing clothes--at least when the clothes inhibit them or are noticeable in any way. On the other hand, no matter how put-upon that Boston terrier looks, I think that scuba costume is so adorable!

(Floyd has a little tuxedo jacket, which he wore when he was the ring bearer at Doug's wedding. He mostly didn't care, because it didn't get in his way, and hey, he matched the rest of the wedding party. On the other hand, he pretty much loathes his Santa's Little Helper antlers, because they sit on his head and annoy him, and you can maybe keep them on him for 10 seconds if you're lucky.)
