Last night I went to naominovik's book signing at Dark Carnival in Berkeley with cofax7. Dark Carnival was, as promised, the Winchester Mystery House of bookstores, a long, narrow space crammed with shelves, with steps leading up into more long, narrow spaces crammed with shelves, and the absolute last place you'd want to be in an earthquake, but one of the first ( Read more... )

That was a great article about Scully; thank you! And BAAAAAAAAAAABY ANIMALS! You are right, baby animals are the common ground for all of fandom. And life. (Do you ever watch the "Growing Up..." series on Animal Planet? Mr. McK has been TiVoing episodes lately, and they INVARIABLY make me cry. But they are awesome.)

That bookshop sounds fantastic. I'm so glad you had a good time!

I... need to stay away from Animal Planet because The Dog Whisperer makes me sob uncontrollably, even though there's usually a happy ending.

It was cofax7 who said that about the Icarus. (:

Teeth Off! Hee!

I highly recommend you rewatch the conversation between Morden and Vir. There's important stuff in it, and we were kinda talking through it.

I seem to be doomed to misquote people in these reviews.

Alas, I already sent the disc back so that we'd have something to watch this Thursday. Maybe I can dig up a transcript.

I'm guessing it's available -- at least that conversation should be quoted on the Lurker's Guide or something.

Laura says we should have said "Hi." Oops. Woulda been awkward, though.

The one question I wouldn't mind asking is about how much work she's done on dragon biology, but it might be something she doesn't want to talk about for spoilery reasons.

Since I don't know her from Eve, I was pretty reluctant to go up there, but maybe you should have? Oh well. I think it would have been tricky to have that conversation with so many other people pressing close around as they were.

That would be a good question; I think the question about Temeraire's breeding attempts skated over that area a little. She could always say no if she wanted to hold back some surprises.
