Since I got back, work has come down on me like twelve tons of bricks. So I have only the briefest of bitchinparty highlights, in bullet points:

  • Fascinating discussions everywhere! Slings and Arrows (for which I remain unspoiled beyond the first three episodes, thanks to everyone for that!), Farscape, the different definitions of slash in the fannish ( Read more... )

lj people are awesome, babylon 5, shoes are my crack

It wasn't until your write-up that the significance of Gray's name occurred to me. When you consider that one of the main purposes of his character was to show us that not everyone in the Psi Corps is evil, it seems almost Dickensian.

Lennier pretty much triggers the "awwww" no matter who he's hanging out with. (:

Looking forward to tonight!

Neat! I hadn't quite made that connection consciously, but that's very true.

You're buying shoes that only cost $50! I'm shocked!

the general undesirability of keeping hamsters as pets, and so forth

I'm hazarding to guess that more than one person is wondering what the hell panel that was. Hee.

And yet, it is just a taste of the fascinating non-panel discussions that were had over the course of the weekend.

I really like the Ivanova and Psi Corps plot lines on B5.

I like Bester - most especially since his signature "Be seeing you" is from the Prisoner.

I was glad to see that there was some follow-through to Sinclair having crossed him; I like it when actions on shows have consequences.

I am beyond thrilled that you had a good time at BP. I was really hoping you would. :) And I saved Arrow's corrected sign--one of the highlights of the con, clearly. :D (For the record, I had it right on the paperwork I submitted to them!)

Those shoes are adorable, and the heel seems reasonable, even! And they would go with nearly everything!

Oh good, because it's, like, a historical document now. (And for the record, I don't think anybody thought that was your mistake!)

You have to believe me, Arrow! *clings*

(Seriously, that was awesome. And I never got to say goodbye to you! Woe! *clings more*)

on to B5... (Thanks again for posting so I can empty my head of this trivia and self analysis)

1.15 Grail, at the time this originally aired, the movie Tron was still fresh on my mind so seeing David Warner was quite the surprise. I liked your observation that for many the Vorlons still scare the crap out of them because of rumors and lack of knowledge. You also touched on why I enjoyed B5 over many future based shows (i.e. McStar Trek franchise), it shows that we (as humans) haven't and probably still won't master our society into a utopian "we are all equal and eliminate all problems" society. Under any veneer there are still people who need assistance and helping them is always our goal in life.

1.16 Eyes - Ah Bester.... When you are done with S5 of B5 I highly recommend this Bester Trilogy by J. Gregory Keyes. Talks about the early Bester, Rise of Psy-Corp and Descent of Bester. Ivanova's dream was bizarre, and to be honest I'm reminded of the opening to "Mighty Aphrodite". You definitely can say Susan deals in black and whites ( ... )

It seems that the show emphasizes, rather, that new technology, new encounters with different people, tend to create new problems, and that they all stem from basic human frailty: fear of difference and change, greed, self-interest.

Ivanova's dream was bizarre, and to be honest I'm reminded of the opening to "Mighty Aphrodite".

Ha! That's an apt, but not very flattering comparison.
