I'll admit that the casting spoiler for the upcoming season has piqued my interest, which is why I stopped to watch this particular episode, but it really did not grab me.
Thanks for the recipe -- I've wondered about, but not tried, that dish. Would it come out all right without onions, do you think? Not every recipe can survive an onionectomy.
Interesting thoughts on The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I hadn't thought of watching it until I read this post. Now I'm going "hmm..."

It's a dish of few ingredients, so omitting one is a little risky, but I think it would be worth a try. I have looked at several other similar donburi recipes, and not all use onion. If you're able to find katsuo (dried bonito flakes) and feel like going to the trouble, you might want to try bringing the 1/3 cup of water to just under a boil with a tablespoon of them and straining the broth before using it in the recipe just to give a little extra flavor to make up for the lack of onion.
Exactly! You could throw a sliver of konbu in there to steep too, but I'm not sure it's worth the trouble for such a miniscule amount of dashi. Some oyako donburi recipes do use dashi instead of water in the first place.
I feel sorry for poor Burn Gorman (the actor who plays Owen), having a face like that. I'm currently watching the BBC Bleak House with Gillian Anderson, and he's perfectly cast as Guppy.
The majority of S1 of Torchwood was quite awful. I will be watching S2 due to its miraculous eleventh-hour recovery, and casting spoilers which I'm finding intensely motivating. I do not have high hopes, however. Mostly, it's cheap candy.
I'm going to give Torchwood another try. Partly because I want to see Jack's return after he took off to follow the Doctor and partly to see what they do with a certain guest star. If the premiere shows me the show has improved from last season I might stick with it for a bit. At least I don't have to bother with downloading since BBC America is broadcasting it two weeks after the BBC.
Burn Gorman is kind of an unfortunate name, too! Oh dear.
I'm aware of the casting spoiler, and it's been enough to renew my curiosity about the show--that plus I gather the boom was lowered and RTD was told to make it stop sucking?--but this episode was kind of a turn-off. And I gather I missed the actively offensive ones.
Hey, we all need our cheap candy, especially when the good stuff is running out.
Thanks for the thoughts on the Terminator show. Poor Hookles conked out early last night, so she didn't see the rest of the pilot, but so far I think our household is fairly neutral on the show. (Since I'm one of the strange few who loved Terminator 3, I'm a little irked they're trying to retcon it away, but somewhat mollified by the allusions to it in the new show.)
But in the meantime, what's your take on this whole "OTW" business? I won't know what to think until you tell me!

I barely remember the movies, and never saw the third one, so I'm coming to the show with a pretty clean slate.

HEE. I missed the big round of discussion when they announced in December because I was so swamped with work, and I haven't really started following it closely since. I'm pretty ambivalent about the academic side of things (probably because of my own issues with and experience of academic cultural studies), but I think the archive could be genuinely valuable, especially since so much fic is spread across individual LJs. And there are probably a bunch of other aspects to the whole issue that I'm not even aware of.

Well, keep me posted if you come up with any additional opinions down the road. :-)
But first--tell me your thoughts about goats!
Oh, we'd be here all day. Suffice to say that I consulted My Most Favorite Book ever and was pleased to discover that, according to T.H. White's translation of a medieval bestiary, the goat is considered a symbol of divinity and good judgment since it seeks out high places and then surveys the surrounding landscape with its keen eyesight. "The Holy Goat," indeed!
As for coots, we're assured that they do not eat corpses, but the rest of their bestiary writeup strikes me as a little dubious. I wouldn't hold up a migratory waterfowl as an exemplar of constancy.

Interesting. I always get a kick out of it when the goats are grazing the canyon in the summer, unless, of course, I have the part-border-collie puppydog with me. Then it's all I can do to keep him from herding.

Thanks for the oyako donburi recipe! My favorite! I can't wait to try it and save some money having to buy it at the local Japanese restaurant.

He does have quite the tendency toward melancholy.
The recipe is so, so easy, and handy because it makes a nice, quick meal.
