So, again, you've got my theories and rambles after watching Cold Blood with Lotus* and Piper**, their friend Fuse, and traumerin.  (Sorry again, traumerin for it being your second episode.  I will now inundate you with links to the former episodes, though.)

SPOILERS... )

We watched this episode last night, and we all (partner and temporary housemate and I) felt rather unsatisfied. We didn't feel like they resolved much. This felt like a To Be Continued, except it was not actually supposed to. And I agree that everyone seemed to be moving very slowly so they could use up the time and keep us in suspense when I don't think the characters would have acted that way otherwise ( ... )

No, long comments are good! I love it when people respond to my ramblings, as I often feel like someone reading them would give up halfway through. (My ramblings tend to be long and sometimes convoluted. This is both because my brain thinks in spirals and because I tend to lay out every single possible relevant fact while I'm coming up with my opinion of the results. This also means I'm more easily swayed by an opposite opinion at this stage ( ... )

This story arc made me tear my eyes out and go, "NO! NO! NO!"

In fact, I only made it halfway through "Cold Blood" and had to resort to people's spoiler's for the end. For me, it was that unwatchable. I agree completely that it was contrived, but it was also SLOW, which made the contrived bits even more cringeworthy.

I absolutely hate the fact that they killed off Rory, though I'm inclined to share your prediction that he will be brought back. I'd be curious how they handle Amy's character, and if we see personality changes--Rory was, after all, a key component to her formative years. And if she lived a childhood without ever knowing him, she may be an entirely different person, no?

It was slow. I felt like nothing really happened in "Hungry Earth" -- they could have made both episodes into a one parter.

The thing about Amy's character is interesting; I didn't even consider it. If they realistically alter her character it will almost make up for killing Rory.

I had a lot of trouble paying attention to this one and to Hungry Earth, which I guess speaks to how slowly things were moving along...I hadn't thought of that before. I do agree that the ending felt very contrived. And I was also really upset they killed Rory off; I liked him and his relationship with Amy a lot. On the other hand, we (my family and I) all had the immediate reaction of "oh but of course they'll bring him back", which shows how little us viewers fear for the companions, like you said, and is maybe an argument for him staying gone. Something people seem to be forgetting, though, is that even if the season finale somehow involves everything that got eaten by the cracks coming back, Rory will still be dead. Although I suppose the writers can always find a way around that if they really wanted...sigh.

Yeah, I guess he was actually killed, wasn't he? I think the whole thing felt like the writers were just trying to get him into the cracks somehow, and he wouldn't go on his own, so they had to kill him first -- which is why I had forgotten that he was technically dead. And if he's technically dead, but he also technically never existed, I think you've got the freedom to bring him back however you want. (Since I doubt time is going to reverse like it did in Martha's season finale, if things get spat back out of the cracks I wouldn't necessarily expect them to be the same.)
