Musings on Gender

So I've been busy and the internet has been on the bottom of my to-do list.  Not that I posted much to begin with, but I do enjoy reading others' posts and commenting.  And letting people know I'm still alive, since for those of you who overlap with my fb friends, well, I haven't been on there much either.

But here's an interesting post about genderRead more... )

I don't know what the innate difference is. I do know that the hardest part of earning a brown belt in karate was learning how to spar: as accepting being hit and being OK with striking in return.

I have a son and a daughter - both teenagers. It's my daughter who's more liable to hit someone in frustration or anger. Of course, her brother just sits on her (being almost 100 pounds heavier and 6 inches taller). My son is a gentle soul, much more live and let live. My daughter has read all the same books you have, and both the kids hold brown belts too. Our school emphasizes the defense part of martial arts ... you are never expected to be the aggressor.

I always find the nature v. nurture conversation interesting. I tend to think that nature sets certain pre-dispositions that nurture either overcomes or reinforces. But, the more we learn about genetics, the more interesting this conversation becomes.

ps ... good luck with school this fall.

That's how tend to think, too, but you phrased it much better than I could have.

good luck with school this fall.

Thanks!
