inauguration

So I had class this morning.  Missed the speech and signing in.  They did ring the change in the bell tower earier today at the time of the swearing in, which was excitement-generating, but slightly funny because the person who was ringing wasn't really that good.  But I read the speech when I got back to my room and thought it a very nice speech ( Read more... )

Personally, the whole "new to politics" is one thing that makes me nervous. From professor to President in 12 years, starting in the nastiest part of one of the most corrupt cities in the union... Makes me nervous, especially given that the media didn't seem to care to check into his background. Of course, i am a cynic.

I hope he does well and does good, but i suspect a great many people will be disappointed when he turns out to be simply another man, and a politician at that.

True, the "new to politics" isn't necessarily good. But I tend to be an optimistic person.

On the other hand (putting on my heavily disused optimist hat), i think that someone who's Not (yet) a long term politician may be needed, get people thinking new ideas, as opposed to the same old same old.

...i'm still paranoid, however.
