Kind of a long story. I have a friend from Romania who is planning on doing a project with our kids related to animals (teaching them basic info about a handful of animals, then having a party related to those particular critters) but who doesn't have much background in the subject. She knows I've worked at a zoo a lot (and specifically in education), and so asked me if I could send her information about them so she would know what to teach. I knew plenty about some of the animals, but on most of them I had to do at least some background research. I have this amazing Encyclopedia of Mammals that theoretically covers every mammal living (in practice, some are covered much more than others, and domesticated animals are barely touched on at all, but oh well); unfortunately, it lumps moose in with other deer and I wasn't sure what species the book's distribution map was for (normally it's fairly specific, but on hooved mammals I think they got overwhelmed or something :) ). So I was trying to figure this out.
