We sold our old home in Framingham in 2004, and moved to the house we are in today.  It was a choice we made after learning the hard way, that less space and more awkward space closer to 'stuff' for more money was way worth the larger/nicer home further away.  We got rid of quite a bit of stuff before our move.  I can't remember if I had read this ( Read more... )

Man I really should have gotten over my guilt at asking a new mom to help me when I was weeding out and packing. I could have held/walked Mina-san while you destroyed my life. :D

As for the home remodel, try and think of it this way - your house is your BIGGEST asset. Anything, and I do mean anything, you put into it will have a positive impact. On your lives (with the new porch) and with the value of your home long run (the siding) If anything you should have taken out a BIGGER HELOC and made that part of your expense plan, and left your savings alone. Debt for a good reason when you're in a stable situation with a payoff plan (and a contingency plan!) is never a bad idea.

M's like you - I've mentioned taking a loan to do some work on the house and he's looked at me as if I had a hole in my head and says "But we have savings!" Which I consider a base for our potential next house. What I lack is a plan that he can live with. And that's just how you're both built, which is totally OK!! :D

I remember that book. You suggested it, and I found it amazingly insightful and helpful! Your practical nature is solid and definitely a core part of you, but anyone who is a dancer will have an ingrained spirit of creativity and energy!

I think I'm trying today that you are such an insightful, cool individual. I have long enjoyed your perspective. I love this journal entry!
