[Tempusverse] Tempus Fugit
Tempus Fugit. Tempus fugit with a mountain of paperwork. Tempus fugit with an uprising of Abnormals. Tempus fugit with Magnus being effing weird. Tempus fugit with Erika pregnant, Biggie mating, Abby...driving him up a freaking wall. Tempus fugit when he's having no fun at all and for some reason, in his mind, that's connected with Kate.
It used to be fun. Even when it was hard, it was fun. Kate made it fun. But he hasn't seen her in weeks and instead of fending off her smacks and occasional odd looks and scowling at her ill-timed jokes (and laughing inside his head), tempus fugit and he misses her.
"She's family, Magnus, and you know how she is. If we don't go down there after her, she'll think we don't care anymore and she'll take that one foot out the door and make it two and--"
"Take a breath, Will," Magnus advises, an odd look in her eyes.
Will doesn't bother listening. He's stopped listening to her lately because she's been weird and he can't even be sure she cares about him or Kate or anything, but he cares. "Then she'll be gone and I'm not willing to lose anyone else. Not if we don't have to. So, unless there's some global uprising you and Declan can't handle, I'm going into Hollow Earth and I'm not coming back without Kate. Or at least until she agrees to come back."
"Very well, Will. I see you have your heart set on what I was going to ask of you anyhow, so--" There's a tiny smile but it seems a little sad, somehow. "When will you leave?"
Yeah, he's a little surprised, but he's glad she sees this his way, because she may live forever but for him and Kate, tempus fucking fugit and he's lived enough of his life without the people he loves and he's not doing it anymore. There's no point to any of this if they can't take care of the people he loves. "As soon as I pack."
Three hours later, he's en route to the nearest caldera, and ten hours later, he's finally managed to track Kate down, and he's standing outside a ring of tents where one big one is set at the back. It's apparently Kate's. She's become some kind of a leader down here and Will's not surprised at all. If he's persistence, Kate is passion. Don't get in the way of that woman when she wants something.
He finds he's smiling, too, while he's waiting for one of the Abnormals to get Her. The capitals of respect are totally obvious in the guy's voice and Will's happy about that, too. Kate deserves to be seen for who she is, not who she used to be.
