New Years party sounds pretty ambitious! Hope it goes down well. Are there fireworks and stuff in Chile?

Down in Valparaíso there are a lot of fireworks and things - we went there last year, it is probably actually on a similar scale to Sydney (though the fireworks are in the ocean). New Year's is also a big deal for superstitions (sales of yellow underwear skyrocket on the days just beforehand).

Not sure exactly what happens, but I would like to just have a reasonable amount of people over to bring in the new year, I´ve never been a particularly big fan of NYE.

Yellow underwear??? I'm intrigued, what does that do for you, is it like Mormon underwear?

The yellow underwear brings good luck - just after Christmas, actually probably before it too, every street corner has some sellers of yellow underwear.

I think it is kind of unknown where that one came from, though they have others like eating 12 grapes, or walking around the block with a suitcase if you wish to travel next year. There are a few for prosperity, so I will have to try them out!

Here are a few of the other traditions - http://ilovechile.cl/2010/12/30/new-year-%E2%80%9Ca-la-chilena%E2%80%9D/15482
