There are exacly five things on that list that I have never done before or technically *know* how to do... yes I totally agree with you that there are way more important things that are not on that list. For crying out loud changing a car tire isnt even on there LOL nor is knowing how to jump start a car and I know men that cannot do either. Not that I consider those things important but they are definate should knows.

There are some things I would remove and there are some things I would add.

For example, most people live in urban areas. How many of them have a rifle? I grew up with guns and have a healthy respect for them. I lived in the boonies and guns were for food and protection. They are next to useless in a typical urban dwelling. I would be better off clubbing some guy with the butt than firing it in a hallway. Anyway, I think the cleaning of one is limited. Most people I know who have guns get them cleaned professionally. In the 70s, too many people hurt themselves cleaning their own guns.

I would add more basic survival skills like swimming and cooking a meal.

Oh, and I can do all of those except hook up an HDTV which I have never done before but strikes me as simple enough. I don't mess with brakes about like I don't mess with guns. It's too important and let the professions do it. Hell, I showed Mr. Ed how to build a fire a couple of weekends ago. Now, if I was only decent at civics exams...

I'm not even sure I know what "frame a wall" means.
