I'm pretty sure at this point that Tony is actually younger than Gio, and that their momma rat was preggers with two litters at the same time ( Read more... )

Pregnant with two litters at once? Um, wow. It's...rough being a female rat... Wow.

Yeah, how does that work? Is that like a fraternal twin thing? Or were the litters in different stages?

It's much more likely that either 1)Tony is just super runt(remember my man Elmer? He was way behind the other babies in his litter just because he was really runtish at birth) or 2)Gio's momma "adopted" Tony in a community-momma-baby cage back with their previous owner and they didn't know what babies belonged with which momma and just dumped them all at Petco with one mom. This would explain Roger's small stature in comparison to Morgan, who looks like a big fatty next to him.
If it'd been a back to back litter that would place Gio/Morgan around (at least) 21 days older than Tony/Roger..which they couldn't be,since they appear to be only 6 weeks themselves.
OR,we have gotten supremely lucky and rescue-adopted some full size baby mans and their dwarf brothers..which could happen(and be totally super awesome).
Sorry....end former-rat-breeder-rant.

well, they are all kinda fancy shmancy colored, except Morgan, who is boring, and they had a bunch of dumbos. I suspect it was an attempt at rattery stuff that went horribly wrong. They'd probably have to go through a decent kinda breeder in order to get dwarves, really, and unless they were really really good liars, I doubt they would have gotten their grubby paws on any dwarf rats.

I know that at one point there was someone somewhere in Florida with dwarves. There were also downunders, but it was during a short period that I wasn't breeding or doing any rattery stuff(ie,not paying attention) and then that breeder moved to PA.
Is it likely that Tony's a dwarf? No,not really.
Is it probably someone's weird attempt at "omg i is has a rattery now"?Yes..and given the color variety in the group of babies we had to choose from I wouldn't be surprised if someone had actually lied to a breeder at one point and gotten say..a blue dumbo and someone carrying some crazy dilutes(Guido) and decided to have a go at it with some random pet store rats in the mix(like the American blue top ear mom..which to me says Petsmart..and Morgan which says "feeder bins").
