Nice to see Russia at least tried negotiation (or whatever passes for that in Putin-ville, since we'd probably call it "extortion") before threatening to kick heads in. It's progress, I think.

It was probably negotiation in the same way you negotiate loan deals with the Godfather, but I suppose it's better then unilateral declaration. Maybe they're getting in touch with their inner Third World country.

I suppose I would have been just as happy if Russia had built a giant floating death platform in the middle of the Caspian Sea with a gold-encrusted throne for Putin and a tank filled with trained killer sharks. It would at least have been interesting.
