Baby Wearing!!

I was hoping to get some great real life reviews and recommendations from you gals as to what type of baby slings or wraps you swear by!!  I am looking to get something other than our Bjorn as I know with two kids it is going to much more challenging this time around to hold a newborn 24-7!!  THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS ( Read more... )

I have an Ergo which I love and DS loved, but we didn't use it till he was 15 months old. Not sure how a new baby would do in it although you can use it for itty bittys. I also bought a ring sling when DS was 15 months old (yeah, got into babywearing way too late). We didn't use it much as the opportunity never arose but I think that's what I'm going to make my main sling for the babies. When they come I'm heading to a local babywearing store that gives classes and lets you try before you buy. Maybe they'll have something different that will work better for me with twins.

I have heard great things about the Ergo!! The price tag seems a bit hard to swallow on them. Where did you get yours from?

I have a hotsling, ring sling and babyhawk MT (and a Kelty hiking backpack). For future kiddo #2, I'd like to add a wrap and either Ergo or Beco.

Most of the more structured carriers (Beco, Ergo, MT, etc) can really swallow up a newborn. I didn't feel comfortable using my MT until abotu 3 months (and Paty was almost 10lbs when she was born, so not tiny). Hotslings seem to be hit or miss based on the baby. Paty hated being in it as an infant but we still use it for hip carries. I'd like to try a wrap for a newborn next time round. They look so cuddly and comfy. And you can pick one up pretty cheap (or make one yourself for about $10).

I like the idea of the more sturctured carriers, but like you said they seem to swallow the newborns!! I am leaning towards the Moby or Mei Tai wraps as they seem like a nice fit for the newborn stage!!

I used this until Chloe was pretty close to 6 months:

Chloe slept in it all the time!

And then I used the Bjorn after that.

I have them bookmarked, but it appears they are all sold out!! What did you think of their sizing chart as it seems a bit confusing!!

Hotslings and peanutshells are basically the same as this. Along with about 20 other companies. So if these are sold out, check around for others.

I used a Moby wrap for the first year or so. In the beginning it was awesome because I could do pretty much anything while Henry was wrapped. I could even bend over without having to hold him. I really liked it. I only stopped using the wrap because the more wiggly he got the more cumbersome the wrap became.

Once we stopped using the wrap I started using a pouch. I use Henry in it at least once a week and he will be 2 in 2 weeks. It is really convenient.

I have also used a sling, which I hated. It was never the right adjustment for my short height. I do not like the Ergo as it irritates my back. The Moby and the pouch both work well with my bad bacl.

The Moby seems like a nice option as again it works for the early to later stages!!

I had a ring sling, mei tei and faux-by (self made moby). They all had their pros and cons and I found myself using different ones at different stages. If I had to pick just one though, I'd go with the ring sling as it was the most versatile and it was the only one I could figure out how to nurse in. Supposedly you can nurse in all of them, but I was never that innovative.

I just seem worried about a ring sling - as they seem so basis. I guess I just lean to the more structured ones!!
