CBS Netcast: "Henry Winkler sits down with Dana..."

Oct 16, 2005 23:57

CBS unveiled my interviews on CBS.com a few weeks ago. I couldn't be happier! They'll be rolling out an interview each weekday so with thirty different podcasts with thirty-five actors, I guess there will be new 'Dana talks with...' content every day for six weeks. Wanna keep up with it ( Read more... )

Dana, this is so cool! I've been checking out the CBS sight. How exciting to see your name so prominent. There were so many stars for you to interview - wasn't it hard to research them all and prepare questions for them all? Your interviews really did help to generate interest in these shows for me. You know, I'm sure I never would have watched Horse Whisperer, but after hearing your interview w/ Jennifer Love Hewitt, who could resist?? That's great that you and Rob are on the cutting edge of this new technology. I'm embarassed to admit, I really didn't understand what podcasting was. *hangs head in shame* But thanks to you, I've learned something new! I also enjoyed the interview with your local reporter. Interesting point about how podcasting is more down to earth and real. Definitely seems to be true. Anyway, hope you write more about the experience. I'm sure everybody'd love to read it.

Thank you so much! Hey, even most of the stars were unsure what podcasting was. Professor Rob taught more than a few about it. Really, it's a trendy word that means 'listen to this mp3 which we'll push to your computer or mp3 player'. Like a magazine subscription, it just comes and you will always have fresh content available as soon as its published.

Ah, the research. I had a weeks prep time between being told I was chosen and when I'd be recording. I IMDb'd like crazy and CBS.com has lots of good content. The night before, CBS gave me a huge binder with photos and bios for everyone, but since we then were taken to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, which backs against the Paramount lot, to party and watch screenings, well, not much more could fit into my brain. I think I've interviewed around 400 people in the last five years, between my tech radio show and my newspaper column, so I fell back on just being interested in them and conscious not to ask questions they always get asked. I found most of them wanted to just be themselves and ( ... )

Bravo. A job well done, especially given only one week to research and prepare. Hey, do you want to work for me?

Congrats! I look forward to listening!

I recently read an article in Technology Review about how podcasting is changing the landscape of advertising, communication, and music. Video podcasting is next, I guess.

Podcasting is the democratization of mass media. Or niche media. Well, depends. 'Everyman' can now be as equal as big media, but that's shifting, regrettably, back to Big Media as they buy placement in the podcast portals. Ironically, this entry was about C 'big media' BS, but I also see it from the little guy side with my Boston Legal podcast. That show can't cut deals for big bucks with, say, iTunes like CBS can, but nonetheless, the iTunes editors picked it to feature on their home page yesterday. So... for that instance, the battle of decent content over Simply Being Big Media is still being played out.
