Wufei essay

Dec 06, 2004 12:46

Remember a few months ago I'd mentioned that I was considering writing a Wufei essay for reflections_2. Then I said I probably shouldn't, because I could think of someone else who would do a better job.

Of course, I was right.

Please, take the time to read datenshiblue's The Warrior Who Fights For JusticeShe has a deep understanding of his character, his culture, his ( Read more... )

essay, wufei, gw, fanfic recs

That was quite educational, and an interesting read. I hope many people read it and are enlightened regarding the complexity and depth of his character.

Pity it says nothing about his greasetastic hair.

Thank you. :)

However you are mistaken. I did make a reference to his hair style, obliquely. When I was talking about my theory that Wufei was in part based on Jet Li's movie potrayal of Wong Feu Hung. ;) The historical hairstyle Jet Li has, called a queue, gives a similar visual impression to the way Wufei's hair is drawn.

This is actually from Once Upon a Time in China 2
So is this
And this

Wufei's hairstyle is not as severe as a queue, but I do recall fans making fun of his receding hairline back in the day. -_-

I hadn't heard the "grease" thing though.

Good thing too. ;)

Eep, I must've skimmed over that bit.

::laugh:: Ask damoyre re: the grease thing. For me, it's less of an omg-wufei-suxxors and more of a "hee. she gets huffy."

*grin*

I figured as much, but I couldn't resist the temptation to poke back. ;)

It's well-written (boy it's long... wonder how long it took her to write all that)... too bad it did not exist when I joined GW fandom 4 years ago... at the time, most of the Wufei-centric stuff was so loathsome, it's like there was nothing but nosebleed (the boy was married for crying out loud) and rant and boringness... Wonder if it's not worse now though as one of the reason I stopped reading GW fics is when I got enough of the fanon and clueless newbies writing GW fics based on other fics 'cause they had never seen the series *headdesk*.

I do feel old though when I noticed it will be 4 years next month O.o... when YTV (Canada kids TV channel) started showing GW... the non-edit (or not much because I remember the blood) episodes...

^_^

Would you mind if I link the article in my LJ too? A friend of mine is just presently watching GW for the first time... I think she might enjoy getting a much better take on the boy than what she might encounter in fanfic land when she hits it later.

And it's Manon... Mirichan is my cat ^_^

LOL!

Of course it is! But I won't apologize - some people have two names. ;)
(I will try and do better next time though! ;D)

And by all means, I'd be honored to have you link to the essay.

She makes some of the best points that anyone seriously considering writing about Wufei draws; it's nice to see them spelled out for others who don't have the time or the inclination. It's always too easy to write off characters who aren't the majority's favourite without a second thought.

Also, that nagging urge to write serious fic about him rises again. Just so much to play with and explore!
