You think this has something to do with moral failing? Highly doubtful. Beyond the broad, subjective criteria, I've met few deities who really care at all about 'sin'.

You met Deities? Are you...certain?

Completely. They are not too uncommon in my dimension, especially what remains of the Greek pantheon.

What if they're not the deities controlling this world?

Some religions, particularly many sects of Christianity, believe that humans (or others, I suppose, 'human' seems to be optional around here) are "sinners" from the day they are born regardless of actual deeds and thoughts.

Which religious sect are you referring to, and which definition of sin?

I suppose Christianity. But they can be absolved and go to heaven still. Unless they continue to break rules.

By Christian standards (assuming the broadest and most generic, allowances can be made for specific sects) I'm sure I've sinned at some point in my life. I'm not a terribly religious person.

Isn't that lonely? Being without religion?

You think we might be here because we did something bad?

Reply

numberonemonkey September 21 2009, 19:23:16 UTC
I suppose so. I don't think the people here are bad, but sometimes we break rules...

I don't know, something doesn't feel right about that. It's extreme for just breaking a few rules. Because there's so many people here who are really good and nice! Don't give up!

Sometimes we have to break big rules for selfish reasons that seem right.

I hope you're right. And I won't. I promise!

I've personally talked with the Yama of my jurisdiction before. Besides the fact that she has yet to pass judgment on me, this was not in any of her descriptions of Hell. I've always thought of myself as more of a gray than a black or white anyway.

Yama? Maybe this is a test to decide where we belong... not that I think it is. I don't know. I'm just confused, I guess. And I always thought there were shades of grey, but what if we're wrong? Angels especially should be pure.

Yama: the Judge of the Dead. Gensokyo falls under the jurisdiction of the Yama of Xanadu. She's a firm believer in black and white.

I've never met an angel in the sense you mean, but I've encountered celestials before. I wasn't impressed.

I see. But, in general, you've broken rules, right?

What is it that you consider a sin? Do you feel guilt?

Reply

numberonemonkey September 21 2009, 19:26:17 UTC
There are many ways to sin.

I suppose I feel guilty for something that happened when I followed the rules, but I also broke rules but never believed what I did was truly wrong.

I understand.

Morality and rules do not always coincide. Rules are merely constructs that are created by Lilim to try and enforce morality. As is the concept of 'sin'. However, everyone is flawed. Therefore, no law or concept can indefinitely insure that it can prevent a wrongdoing, or indeed not cause one itself.

Try telling that to Eden. I'm sorry. I'm just a little upset... Things just seem to come together as though this is my punishment. I wondered if it was the same for anybody else.
