Exact mirror of the ones they'd climbed before, these stairs held no surprises, as far as the Royal could tell. Hopefully they'd be able to cross the hallway at the top and make it to the closet without attracting that attention of the woman with the electric sword - or any other nasties in the wings, for that matter.

It mattered even less when it dawned on him that the scuffling sounds ahead weren't just the usual 'night time noises'; something was going on upstairs. He paused on the steps, glancing at Hime uncertainly. It could just have been noise pollution from the mess the woman with the electric sword was making, of course, but it wasn't worth taking the chance and going in heavily. Or too slowly. If that was a fight, there was someone up there who potentially needed help. "Let's go."
Without stopping to make sure she'd understood him, he bolted for the top of the stares to get a better look at what was going on.

This stairwell was completely vacant. In a way, that made him more nervous, but at least Peter was worrying about the monsters more than his own bad memories. He kept his flashlight moving from spot to spot in search of anything that was off, but it looked like they were in the clear.
"So," he spoke up again, figuring that both of them would feel less anxious if they kept talking, "when do you think we can actually start doing that paramedic work? I mean, wandering around looking for injured patients and all that." Peter realized it sort of depended on how many supplies they gathered tonight, but he was still curious.

No, wait. That was a bad thing to think about too. But apparently Peter was willing to talk, which was a welcome and timely distraction. "Oh, I... well, right away?" The shinigami blinked up at his taller companion, one shoulder lifting in a lopsided shrug. "If anyone wanted to?" Not that it would stop him if nobody wanted to come along. It might make him pause a little and cringe a lot, but not stop him.

"I have only been here a short while," Aigis admitted as they began up the stairs, one step at a time. "This is my fourth night spent here."
The stairs were mostly abandoned, which worked fine for Aigis. A crowded staircase was not safe, especially if a monster attacked them while on the move. Cleared, she could easily maneuver Rei to safety. And she didn't have to worry about Rei being shoved aside and potentially having her wounds aggravated.
"I am usually much more productive than this, but I find myself quite out of my element in this body. No doubt a handicap placed on me by the Head Doctor."
The railing of the stairwell felt icy cold to her touch, and her body shivered in reaction. She released the railing, gripping her flashlight in her free hand and moving the bat to her rifle arm. She had to remain vigilant. Every step they took led them deeper into the darkness of the institute.
