Locked. He couldn't say he was surprised. Minato dropped his hand from the doorknob he had discreetly tried to open, giving the first door he had seen a frown before continuing on to the middle of the hallway. Though dark out, the windows provided more light than his flashlight alone; maybe he would be able to stop waving it around for a few minutes while he caught oriented himself.
He decided this room would be worth explaining to Gaara. "This is the middle of the institute. We spend a lot of time in the rooms below."

His eyes shifted to Minato, then to the railing nearby. The faint light allowed the sight of a larger room, and more shadowed doorways. During the day, then, Minato meant. Gaara had to wonder what exactly was the purpose of the day time differing from night. Here, he nodded again at his guide. Another point to memorize and keep to use at the earliest convenience.

He shook his head, clearing those thoughts away. Now wasn't the time to dwell on what he couldn't remember, especially while somebody else was with him. Stepping away from the railing, Minato walked over to the large doors behind him. These doors would have led into the ... entry room, if they were on the first floor. Unlike those doors, the ones before him were securely locked; a closer inspection showed no weak spots to jam his sword blade or otherwise force open the door.
"...Let's try some other doors."

The suggestion Minato gave was simple enough, and Gaara complied while continuing to mull over things. Moving a little up a nearby walkway gave the first one to be locked. The second to be open. It clicked easily, and he peered inside.
