Night 50: Main Hallway, 2-Center

Jul 16, 2010 17:56

[From here]All quiet so far. None of the usual sounds of combat could be heard coming from the Sun Room. It seems they'd beaten the usual crowd of people heading through there. Of course, this just meant they'd be the first to be ambushed. Wonderful ( Read more... )

Locked. He couldn't say he was surprised. Minato dropped his hand from the doorknob he had discreetly tried to open, giving the first door he had seen a frown before continuing on to the middle of the hallway. Though dark out, the windows provided more light than his flashlight alone; maybe he would be able to stop waving it around for a few minutes while he caught oriented himself.

He decided this room would be worth explaining to Gaara. "This is the middle of the institute. We spend a lot of time in the rooms below."

Again he followed, watching the other try a locked door, and wondering once if he should offer to force it open. The sword, possibly, would be a better option--the hilt seemed sturdy enough to break a knob. But the other was already moving, and the thought passed through his mind. What was behind the doors here? There was too much he didn't know.

His eyes shifted to Minato, then to the railing nearby. The faint light allowed the sight of a larger room, and more shadowed doorways. During the day, then, Minato meant. Gaara had to wonder what exactly was the purpose of the day time differing from night. Here, he nodded again at his guide. Another point to memorize and keep to use at the earliest convenience.

"They run their experiments at night. Here and ... the next floor up." He was going off of his own vague experience and the inferences he made after the fact. Just being up here reminded him of the battles he had fought for the insitute, and the vague memories he still had of being taken away from his room. He didn't remember the orderlies staying on this floor for very long...

He shook his head, clearing those thoughts away. Now wasn't the time to dwell on what he couldn't remember, especially while somebody else was with him. Stepping away from the railing, Minato walked over to the large doors behind him. These doors would have led into the ... entry room, if they were on the first floor. Unlike those doors, the ones before him were securely locked; a closer inspection showed no weak spots to jam his sword blade or otherwise force open the door.

"...Let's try some other doors."

The pause made him question. Was it that there wasn't much known about that area, or that too much was known? In the realm of experimentation, the options expanded. The creativity of men when it came to cruelty for their own benefit was wide, and Gaara understood that. Something to consider, then. To research if the time allowed. Though the shinobi would rather leave here than remain to understand its inner workings.

The suggestion Minato gave was simple enough, and Gaara complied while continuing to mull over things. Moving a little up a nearby walkway gave the first one to be locked. The second to be open. It clicked easily, and he peered inside.
