Night 50: Recreational Field

Jul 10, 2010 04:49

[from here]He'd been prepared for the same uncomfortable disorientation from last night, but all Kirk stepped into was the cold, clean air of the recreational field. A considerable improvement, although he wasn't about to thank Landel for any small favours. Despite the dull throb of his injury, he kept a firm hold on the door, remembering the way ( Read more... )

It looked like they were spared more warping doors. McCoy let out a quiet sigh of relief. He didn't know if his stomach could take any more sudden displacements. They came out into the field, the same one that he'd first seen this Jim getting roughed up by one of the local creatures. The doctor looked around cautiously. It looked clear for the moment, nothing coming in front of the flashlight's beam, but it was also a big field.

They shouldn't stay here too long. McCoy turned back to the captain.

"We were back on my Enterprise. One moment, we were in a pantry, the next, my office." McCoy said. He didn't have a clue what the captain was going on about with that maze of his. A hedge maze, maybe? He hadn't seen anything like that so far, but he also hadn't covered all the grounds here. "Got popped back the very day I vanished ( ... )

The very day? Bones had been here for five days now, a fact he knew neither the doctor nor Spock would have missed. Kirk would've liked to hear a few more new theories on Landel's loose and fast treatment of time and space, but now was not the time for it. Or, more precisely, here was not the place: the field had looked empty the last time he'd been out at night, and he'd come out of that trying to hold his ribcage in ( ... )

Even if he wasn't in bright orange, Sakura had no trouble picking out Naruto the second she set foot outside. Perfect! So now she could go exploring and not have to worry about anyone being upset with her for going alone tonight and she could check on Naruto, something she really hadn't had a chance to do since he'd arrived again, all full of the usual energy and luckily, none of the memories of this place.

"Naruto!" she called out, giving a wave as she glanced over the terrain. Scaling that wall would be pathetically easy. If the gravity here wasn't so strange, with so many limitations on what they could do, even a child could leap it in a single jump. It was ridiculous.

"Hey, where are you headed?"

He seemed to be doing just fine, if the cheesy smile was anything to go by. But asking why she was still here? Either he was a complete idiot or- no, there was no "or," he was definitely an idiot. Sakura frowned, shaking her head.

"It's not that easy you know!" she blurted, hands falling naturally to her hips. "Did you not notice that every morning, no matter how far we get, something puts us right back in our beds? You're so thick sometimes!"

Though it sounded harsh, it was more or less the daily banter she'd become familiar with when talking to Naruto. She sighed. It wasn't as if she meant it anyway. At least, mostly. She glanced at the flashlight in his hand, other weapons noticeably absent. She pulled a kunai from her pouch, holding it out handle-first "That all you've got to fight with? I've only got a couple, so don't go losing it, but take one, ok?"

[Running in from here]Had he been in a more collected frame of mind, Venom might have taken the time to cherish the notion that the door actually led where it was supposed to this night, or even just casually remember his first night in this prison. He could have relished the feeling of the night's cold air combing through his hair and let it bring back the memories of simpler times. He could have been upset that his nice shoes were no doubt going to be dirtied as a direct result of stepping outside with them on. Instead, he took a quick look to his surroundings and immediately chalked them up as unimportant and a waste of his time. What was important was that brick wall in his way ( ... )

[From here.]The chilly night air greeted the king as he passed through the doorway. He took a deep breath- no nauseating feeling, no unexpected location before them. While the thick darkness surrounding them could hide any amount of dangers, he would take it any day over random warping at Landel's leisure. It would have been easy enough to drop anyone posing a genuine threat into a deathtrap- it was another hint that the man wanted a challenge ( ... )

Gren looked over the dark field for a moment before turning to the wall. It looked the same on this side as it did in the courtyard... nothing particularly remarkable there. And if the vines were as well-anchored as they looked, they might come in handy.

"No problem," he replied. He'd been planning to offer, had Edgar not mentioned it first. He stooped a little and interlaced his fingers so Edgar could get a foot into his linked hands and hopefully get himself to the top of the wall. It was probably going to hurt his arm, but he'd live. He couldn't help the glance he threw back towards the empty field... they were going to be wide open while they climbed over the wall, and it wasn't a feeling he liked. The faster they could get to the other side and possibly get their hands on something resembling a weapon, the better.

Moving quickly, Edgar stepped into Gren's hands and leapt to the top of the wall, gripping the ledge with his working arm. His shoes slid against the bricks, forcing him to use both arms to pull himself up- he gritted his teeth and stifled his voice, bracing himself against the sharp pain that cut through him, cursing the assigned slippers under his breath as he righted himself on the ledge. He felt his wound reflexively- he'd probably pulled a few stitches, but he'd survive. There were more important matters now.

There was hardly a moment to regain himself- he needed to help Gren. Straddling the wall for support, he leaned downward and offered Gren a hand in case he needed it.

Gren watched Edgar scramble up onto the wall and caught hold of the offered hand with his bad arm, using the good one to catch hold of the top of the wall and haul himself up, cursing quietly under his breath. Once he made it up, he took a moment to assess the damage--his arm was throbbing now more than ever, but the wound hadn't reopened so far as he could tell--and looked over at Edgar.

"You okay? That didn't look fun." If they ever did make it back to that town, Gren was making it a priority to find them both some better footwear. Glancing to one side, he could see the courtyard, somehow far more ominous in the dark than it had been in the daytime. The drop back down the wall was probably going to be about as fun as getting up there had been, if somewhat less tricky.

The night air was refreshing. How long had it been since she'd really gotten to step outside the Institute? The past few nights she'd been out (before her death) hadn't taken her very far. One couldn't really say she was thankful that the night hadn't ended yet, as she wouldn't give the Head Doctor the satisfaction, but it was definitely a welcome deviation from the norm.

Glancing over her shoulder, it looked like the man was indeed following her. Good. They'd see where this led. If she was lucky, something might actually come of this night, as opposed to so many others before.

Indeed, Tenzen was more than able to play the temporary follower until it ceased suiting his needs, yet, whatever would suit his needs was his alone to determine. But it wasn't the first time he played the follower; before Ogen-sama had died by the hand of Danjou, he had been Tsubagakure's second-in-command after all. A title he still held officially, but it was hardly a secret Tenzen seized the authority after the old woman had passed away; Oboro-sama was in many ways unsuitable to be the heir of a ninja clan after all ( ... )

It was indeed night when he stepped out into the clean, crisp air; it was cool, and the youkai took a deep and refreshing breath of it, letting it fill his lungs before expelling it slowly. After barely another moment, Naraku looked around, observing the outside surroundings. The grass was cut peculiarly short, in a very fine, well-groomed manner. It seemed, also, to have grown in a certain shape... a rectangle? It covered a fairly large area, yet there were no trees, no bushes, no other plants of any kind; the only things he could see sprouting from the ground were strange, white constructs of which he did not recognize ( ... )

Extra company hadn't been expected, and it wasn't particularly welcome, either. Though her first night had gone well (or as well as any night here could go) with more than one other patient as company, this had the possibility of slowing them down. ...Or did it? Now that she thought about it, Callisto realized she'd gotten further when she was with more than one patient than she did with just a partner. Odd, by why not test it out ( ... )
