As expected, the hallway was pretty much abandoned by now. Zack caught a few stray lights here and there, but for the most part they were alone. That meant that getting over to the stairs would probably be pretty easy, but there was also the chance that monsters started to draw closer to the rooms as the night went on.
There was no point in worrying about that, though. If something came for them, he'd at least be given the chance to try out the Thunder materia they'd managed to hold onto. As Zack walked, he pulled it out of his pocket and looked it over. "Never thought we'd get this lucky," he commented, figuring that he should take the chance to move their conversation onto something less depressing. "I want to try it out, but I figure we should wait until we actually need it."
He glanced over to his friend and shrugged, handing him the small green orb to look over in case he was curious.

He glared at its crystalline surface. "I'd trade every materia I ever owned if it meant we could keep Aerith safe." Because that had been Aerith again, not some falsification of her. It couldn't have been. It didn't matter how short a time they'd gotten to spend here, it was more time than he'd ever expected to have again. He was grateful for that, damn it all, and perhaps it was greedy of him to want more, but Aerith deserved the second chance.
Cloud handed the materia back before he could get angry and throw it or something. It would be useful if they were attacked by anything, though lightning in an enclosed space like this wasn't usually the best of ideas.
