Night 49: Homeworld - Gaia, Costa Del Sol

[From here]Vertigo hit, a sick lurching feeling as soon as she stepped through the door, making her vision swim and her legs seem to take on the consistency of jelly. She stumbled forwards, the ground uneven and oddly unstable beneath her feet in the way that a solid floor shouldn't have been and it was only when she caught her balance and her ( Read more... )

Rika's head spun hard as she went through the door, her stomach twisting and her legs coming out from under her the moment she hit the ground. She was too warm by half, slipping out of her coat and sweatshirt. There. That was a little better, but ( ... )

Stepping through the door brought a wave of disorientation that reminded Taura of the first wormhole jump she'd ever taken. Not that the second, third, and three-hundredth jump didn't come with vertigo, but after the first time, she'd expected it.

It didn't normally work very well without a spacecraft. Or, more importantly, a pilot, since machine control of a ship had led to a lot of missing ships. None of them were carrying neural implants -- the hookups were distinctive -- and none of them were carrying a ship, so she was more than a little lost. Cissnei wasn't -- she'd come home? It was certainly beautiful, and warmOnce she saw that Cissnei had relaxed, she stretched, the motion rippling from her ankles up through the tips of her painted nails. Mmm. Rika just nodded, wiggling her toes a little and letting the sand slip between them and back out again. She was quiet for just a minute, worry mixing in with the happiness. What was happening back there? Why was she still in her uniform, not in her swimsuit? What if they wound up stuck there?

She sat down, leaning back onto her arms. "It really is pretty...and I'm sorry to bring the mood down, but I...I'm a little worried. What if there isn't -- not that I really, really want to go back, but I'm worried about my friends there...I wish I could bring them back here with me, you know?"

Rika sighed just a little. Things weren't that easy, she knew that. But it would be kind of nice, as wishful as the thought was. Something like the last day in Okinomiya all over again...that would be a good thing. Second chances didn't happen often, so taking advantage of them was important.
