Nightshift 23: M1-M10 Hall

Apr 20, 2007 08:42

Recluse was practically watching the door, waiting for the lock to click open. He had hidden the angle iron he had begun to work on, as well as a good amount of rust, stored in a small sack made from a portion of his sheets. His years of working at Paragon City's shipyards had shown him that rust could really come in handy, if you knew the proper ( Read more... )

Cliff's radio blared to life in the middle of the hallway. It wasn't loud, so he managed to keep from jumping a mile - he'd completely forgotten it was on. He turned it up a little and kept going.

I know you have questions, and I have answers...

"I'll bet you do." Cliff murmured under his breath. He followed the hallway out. Thankfully, he'd been smart enough to ask Yohji for directions.

((Coming from here.))

Haku looked around. He was close now. Just a few more doors and he'd be at his Master's side once again.

Then he saw Stefan and he frowned. He was favoring a leg, and for a moment he hesitated. He could help, even if it was simple pain relief, but he had a feeling that the man wasn't the type to accept aid from others, even if it were freely offered. He hands hovered around his makeshift sack.

Recluse didn't have a radio with him, but he overheard enough from one carried by another patient less interested in stealth. "How many of you can say you were offered godhood and did not falter?" the radio asked. I can. He was proud of it.

'Where the devout kneel...' Chapel, then. He hadn't been there before, but his nurse had rambled on about the speech from the doctor that he had missed. It was somewhere on the second floor. How convenient that he was going there anyway.

He was about to leave when Haku appeared. Recluse stopped, quietly regarding the boy for a moment. "If you have something to say, then speak." At night, he seemed much more inclined to return to his normal personality and mannerisms. He spoke quietly now, but his voice had an almost metallic edge.

At the tone of voice used, Haku seemed to change as well. His eyes and voice took on all the warmth of the deepest of winter. Cold, harsh and indifferent.

After all, there was no need to be happy right now.

"If you're in pain, or having any difficulty, I can help you." He held up a hand to forestall any sneering or scoffing. "No payment or favors asked, nothing from you. Just the knowledge that you are able to move freely, without pain, is enough." He gaze clearly said that he really couldn't care if this man took his offer or not.

It was also clear that this was no tough act put on by a haughty teenager. Haku was winter after all.

The change in tone did not go unoted. Inwardly, Recluse approved of it.

His leg was causing enough discomfort to still force him to favor it. It was a liability. "Very well." He could not allow the injury to slow him down for the rest of the night.

Ambling down the hallway, Bast continued his lecture to his poor radio.

"If he's upset with us, we're going to have to make it up to him. You don't think he'll kill us or Crucio us, do you? Oh dear, Jack. He could be awfully mad! What if he needed me to go do something for him, and I wasn't there? But I had to go get you, Jack!"

The fact that Bast had been dragged back to his room by orderlies instead of getting to 'Jack' seemed to have slipped his mind. Timidly knocking on Raistlin's door, he peeked in worriedly.

"M-Master Raistlin? You're not mad, are you?" he asked, not even knowing if the man was there or not.

Raistlin hadn't been in a particularly talkative mood when dinner came around again, though that wasn't much of a surprise; he rarely was, anyway. He'd found a couple of the people he'd been forced to be around quite...aggravating, moreso than certain other company that he'd kept in the past. More vulgar. Keeping an eye out for weapons had slipped his mind while he devoted his attention to remembering faces and who to avoid, not that the silverware would have been particularly useful, anyway.

He had been wondering, though, what had become of his follower. When the disembodied voice announced the experiments, Raistlin wondered if Bast may have been one of them, as the place's punishment for attempting to go find Jack ( ... )

Bast edged around the door enough to peek in, keeping low incase any curses were headed his way. Approaching the Dark Lord when he could be upset was dicey at best ( ... )

Raistlin stood up from his bed, reaching under the covers to find the stick that lit itself with the push of a panel, and came closer to the door.

"No, I'm not mad," he said in as gentle a tone as he could, a tone he'd used to manipulate Caramon and hoped would work on his follower. He wasn't too mad, at any rate, and he figured it would be better to keep Bast around.

But even if he had been horribly angry, what good would really come of turning him into a cockroach or keeping him in such pain? He did try, and wasn't afraid of the darkness like Caramon had been, not to mention he had stuck around him like a leech, and Raistlin was determined to use that to the fullest so that he could escape. No, he needed Bast in one piece, one loyal piece. Besides, Bast seemed to forget that he was unable to do much in this place, and he wasn't about to remind his follower of that important fact ( ... )

Otacon stepped outside of M1 and waited. Fox had said that he'd meet up with him this night shift, but it sounded like the soldier had a lot of plans tonight and he wasn't sure how long it would take. Not to mention if Fox was caught in the halls by a monster ( ... )

The message had been interesting enough for Otacon to take a moment to scribble down some notes in his journal, then he figured that as long as he was here, he might as well collect his thoughts on everything else that had happened until now. And if he was writing, he might as well go back to his desk and leave the door open for Fox ( ... )

Showering, even with other boys his age, was not a particularly pleasant experience for Sora. He had made sure to get it over with quick, and after that it had been back to his room for dinner. After stealing a little bit of sleep, he'd made sure to eat most of his dinner (though quietly, as his roommate had been sleeping - he seemed to sleep a lot) and then tried to make sense of the intercom and the radio.

More of those horrible experiments... Yet he didn't recognize any of the names. Then again, he didn't know many of his friend's real names. He'd been trying to learn more of them, but he always forgot to ask.

There was no point worrying over the broadcasts, though. He needed to get to Kairi and the others. So, with his flashlight in hand, he made the familiar trip down the hallway and exited the block.
