Nightshift 49: Homeworld - Skull Castle

[from here]If Forte had possessed a sense of smell when he was a robot, he probably would have recognized this large hallway immediately. As it was, he was just reminded slightly of the hardware store - it definitely smelled like freshly oiled metal. But as he turned off his flashlight and looked around, he froze with recognition. Although there ( Read more... )

Hoping Forte's good feelings about this door were right, Sechs stepped off the bland tiles of the arts and crafts room, leaving it all behind in an instant as his boots heavily landed on an ironclad floor. Immediately, the smell of machinery greeted Sechs as well, causing him to give out another gruff sigh. "Shit! Don't tell me we're back in the hardware store ( ... )

Forte's mind was racing trying to figure out what was happening, and what the implications were. What about all those theories of how they got there, how they'd been transformed? He'd briefly thought about it, but usually dismissed it as too complicated and not immediately important. Now, it suddenly meant the world. This meant he couldn't just be hooked up to another machine, controlling this body by remote, right? Or... was he a copy? Was there another - the original - Forte running around this building somewhere? No, he had to be the original. What would Wily do? Could he... build another robot body for him? He was a roboticist, would he know anything about transferring a mind from one body to another ( ... )

"Home?" Sechs echoed, looking all the more perplexed, "But who's...?"

Yet Forte had already taken off, leaving Sechs with the only option but to follow. Keeping a wary lookout around him, the tall Replica kept a thunderous pace behind the shorter fighting robot, his mind racing faster than he ran.

This couldn't be his team base back up in Ketheres, and the chamber didn't have the telltale sounds of being out in orbit. No, he had never been to this place before, and as he followed Forte close behind, it was then that Sechs realized just how well the other robot seemed to know the area. Was this really Forte's home...?

Sechs didn't have much time to ponder anymore on that as he and Forte seemed to be reaching their destination. He too could hear a voice from just around the corner. Unsure what to expect, Sechs slowed his pace down, not wanting the thumping of his boots getting unwanted attention as he stayed side-by-side with Forte.

The laboratory was brighter than the hallways, with screens and displays on every wall and hanging from the ceiling - showing, at a glance, various designs for robots, their current status or specifications, updates on the manufacturing in and construction of other wings of the castle. Forte didn't know why Wily needed everything constantly on display, but it was... comforting.

After all the crap he'd been through, all the confusion, it was all so completely familiar. He couldn't have kept the grin from creeping onto his face if he'd wanted to. This was how it worked - whenever something happened, he'd return, and Dr. Wily would fix Forte up, even upgrade his armor or weapons to test the latest and greatest technology. He'd know what to do. Everything was going to be alright. In the back, the doctor was at one the biggest screen of all, typing away at the mass of code for... something. Most likely than not some other "____ Man ( ... )
