Day 23: Intercom, Dinner

Apr 17, 2007 03:26

As the intercom clicked on, one could almost hear a very new, very faint sound emanating from it, and that was the high-pitched whine and scratchy voices on a television. The extra noise was cut short, however, when the Head Doctor seemed to realize he had left his television program on and turned it off so that he could make his announcement ( Read more... )

"You freaking serious?"

It seemed to be all Dean was proficient at in the shift leading to dinner; repeatedly muttering insolent and bold objections to the sentence he had to serve a second time. The nurse had noticed he hadn't touched his lunch (Goddammit!). Normally that wouldn't have been enough to pin a patient on, but on top of being involved in the bathroom scuff earlier, and the fact he'd literally bolted when she again specified that she needed to check if his dressings needed changing... well, let's just say the hunter wasn't pleased by her line of response. An orderly was called and had seized him by the shirt and lugged him to his room, stating that he was to endure the whole evening shift alone in it for his insubordination ( ... )

Kasady came in and settled in a sprawl on his bed, in a relatively good mood considering he was coming back "home" to a man in his room and not some hot piece of ass.

Better correct that: babeass, because Brock was all into the Spider's ass, and Kasady supposed that Pops would've found his roomie attractive in a stalker-kind of way.

"So, man, how was your nightshift? Looks like you had some fun." Not that he really cared too much whether Winchester ate it or not, but they could hope, right? And maybe...maybe if he got attacked enough, Kasady could step in sometime and finish the job. The others would just have to mark it off as a nightshift casualty.

Yeah, that sounded good. Real good. They popped a piece of cornbread in their mouth, trying hard not to look at their roomie's forehead instead of his eyes.

He was in the middle of a yawn when Kasady entered. Roommate. Right. It had somehow slipped his mind that the other bed meant another person. One eyelid opened at the question.

"Mm..." Quickly edging away from the wall and putting his feet on the floor, he glanced up. "Fun. Ha, yeah. I'd call that fun, alright." Eyebrows shooting heavenward, he cracked his knuckles, grimacing.

Good to see their observational skills were still in good shape. The dressings weren't exactly that obvious, but he did look a little bulkier.

Okay, maybe it'd just been a good guess. Kasady preferred to just think of it as his predator instincts rootin' out weaknesses. Just sounded plainbetter.

"Don't suppose you found a way outta here last night?" Probably not, but couldn't hurt to ask. Not that they wanted to leave just yet, and once they got their abilties back up a hundred percent, whatever Dean found (or didn't find) really wouldn't matter, would it? They'd broken out of an asylum before, so it wouldn't be too hard to tear a few walls apart, dismember a few bodies, then be on their way to freedom when they were ready...right?

Takaya had bolted through his shower and then gone to his room. He didn't want to talk to anyone, didn't want to see anyone, and when a nurse showed up along with food, he ignored them both in favor of putting the pillow over his head.

If he were the type to admit his feelings openly, he'd had said he was frightened. Not of the shit that happened at night. Not even of Naoe. Fuck that. But of ... himself. Beyond whatever it was that kept him safe, the walls he guessed, he could just barely sense rage and pain. Takaya's fists tightened. He had to keep control. He needed to stay Takaya.

Head buried under the pillow, Takaya tried not to yell or throw a fit and dug his fingernails into his palms, barely noticing when nail bit through flesh and his palms started to bleed.

Damn it.

Lee walked into the room, allowing the irritation he felt at constantly being ordered around to wash over him.

His eyes narrowed when he saw Takaya lying on the bed. Something felt off again. He was not sure what it could be, and perhaps a part of him did not want to know. However, with the night soon approaching, and apparently the threat of another horrendeous night ahead, he knew that they had to keep it together.

"Takaya-san," he said sharply. It did not seem at first that Lee could talk like that, but on the other hand, when had anybody really tried to figure him out? He sat down on his bed, looking at the food that they were given. "We must eat in order to remain strong. And it is unwise of you to damage yourself." He looked neither happy nor sad, simply beginning to eat his food.

Takaya blinked in surprise at the tone, then chuckled softly to himself as he sat up. He'd been half dozing by this point and he looked Lee over, then at his food. Now that he'd had a bit of time to calm down, he was feeling hungry and a bit more in control.

He started to eat. After a long while of being quiet, he took a drink of water and glanced at Lee again, before looking back at his plate.

"I never did say thank you," he said, sincere in his words. "So...Thanks. I owe you a lot Lee." A lot more than the boy probably knew... but that was for the best.

With a tilt of his head, Lee looked over at Takaya. "I am afraid that I do not understand what you mean, Takaya-san. I have done very little to help at this moment and it seems that certain individuals here are not very pleased with my presence."

Not that he cared about that, but it was the truth of the matter.

"There are things you are loath to tell me, Takaya-san. I understand that there are pains to everyone's soul that one wishes to keep locked inside. However, I hope that one day you will find me trustworthy enough to tell me what it is that hurts you. Perhaps it will help ease your burden, even if just a little."

Some cornbread and one cookie? That was all the sugar the institute was giving him to work with for the night? It was a good thing he'd eaten an almost unhealthy amount of pancakes and waffles and various other things drowned in syrup at breakfast or he probably wouldn't even have the energy to face the prospect.

Truthfully, as far as institutional fare went, this place wasn't all that bad. It was better than Rosenkreuz, at least...although no one at Rosenkreuz had ever cut his head open, either, so he supposed there were arguments to be made for both sides.

After eating a bit of the beef and potatoes - Schuldig rarely showed much appetite except where sugar, caffeine, alcohol, or any unholy combination thereof were concerned - he started in on his cornbread, waiting with with positive anticipation for Obi-Wan to arrive.

Obi-Wan had not been looking forward to dinner, but he knew it was unavoidable. With his journal in hand, he allowed the nurse to escort him back to his room. The previous shift had been fairly uneventful, though it had been a little interesting to get a better feel for Earthian technology ( ... )

"Next time show up earlier," was Schuldig's relatively cheerful greeting as he made an idle gesture (presumably of greeting) with his half-eaten chunk of cornbread. "For the record, if you don't want your cookie, I'll take it. I need the sugar and this place is getting stingier with it by the day."

Schuldig was apparently quite pleased with himself; three entire sentences and nothing subtly threatening or overtly offensive in any of them. Not even hints at knowing things he shouldn't and the possibility of his spreading them around.

Obi-Wan pointedly ignored Schuldig's first remark as he placed his napkin in his lap and picked up his silverware. Tonight's Earthian cuisine didn't look too bad, and the Jedi was actually a little relieved that the nurses had simply given them water instead of exotic juices or that Earthian milk.

"For the record, if you don't want your cookie, I'll take it," Schuldig said. "I need the sugar, and this place is getting stingier with it by the day."

Obi-Wan didn't have the same kind of sweet tooth that his roommate seemed to, so he had no problem giving up his dessert. "You're welcome to it," he said, and he reached over to hand the orange-haired man the baked treat.

It was surprising, even to him, how reluctant he had been to disturb Lyta when it had come time for the shift to change, she had been sound asleep when the nurse came over and told him it was time for dinner.

He would probably see Lyta soon enough, if Alfons and Otacon could do their work quickly.

Still, he was quieter than usual as he ate his dinner, having a lot to think about with the memories Lyta had uncovered for him.

Wesker was quite pleased with himself as he made his way back to his room, while he hadn't managed to make plans with Claire, he did plan on making his way over to the F-halls to see if he could catch her before she got too far.

He held no illusions that it would be difficult to keep up the facade of being Claire's father. Wesker certainly wasn't the paternal type, but he would make an effort to ensure that Claire remained on his side. She was the ideal ally, since they shared the same ability. While that meant that they wouldn't have as much versatility, they also wouldn't have to worry as much about things that would injure others.

Wesker was also somewhat curious about his room-mate.
