day 49: early afternoon - The Twin Pines Restaurant

Apr 27, 2010 17:15

Unlike the nurses, some of the other patients, and the residents of Doyleton, Naminé actually was enjoying the light drizzle. It was a little cold, but the damp feeling in the air was one she was not used to, and that was probably why the Nobody spent the better part of the morning lounging around town, enjoying the light rain. Rain, real rain! It ( Read more... )

Hoping that the rain would let up, Anise had stuck around in the toy store for an extra hour or so, looking over the various toys inside. Unfortunately, the rain only seemed to come down harder, and eventually the girl found that she was getting hungry. Now was probably a good time to go find something to eat ( ... )

Having left Guy at that moment was done mainly to spite the swordsman, though he didn't really have a destination in mind as soon as he turned the corner. Unlike most the rain meant very little to him, but every nurse he passed seemed to urge him to take shelter elsewhere. With that Sync spent most of his time meandering from store to store, not paying much mind to what was provided as opposed to just keeping to himself. It looked as if the rain poured harder each time he stepped back outside, and by the time he decided to grab some lunch it was practically pouring ( ... )

When Anise noticed who it was who just walked through the door, the girl sank in her seat a bit, hoping he would overlook her and go somewhere else. She wound up having no such luck, as the God-General recognized her immediately and soon made his approach.

Ugh. Why Sync? Why couldn't it be anyone else ( ... )

If Anise honestly expected that anything she did could actually turn Sync away then she was setting herself up for a good bit of disappointment. That unwelcoming stare was met with a wide smile as Sync scanned the menu, giving the impression that the faded print was far more interesting than whatever Anise was trying to do ( ... )

As much as he wanted to slip away and start investigating the various establishments, it was hard without a nurse coming up to him and seeing if he was finding a friend to talk to. The last thing he wanted to do was deal with a nurse hounding him, but the goal he had in mind was to check out various places. Instead, Riku lurked awkwardly outside of them, before he finally stubbornly stopped somewhere. After some time passed, he realized this wasn't doing it for him, and tugged out his coupons again. His lips twitched down into a frown at them, and he realized what he needed was food. After that, he could start out again. He could find something useful about this sleepy town ( ... )

It had been quiet where Naminé was sitting - she wasn't sure if the waitresses wanted nothing to do with her (she had noticed, the stares that the shopkeepers had been giving them), or because it looked like she hadn't decided yet (also true). Therefore, a friend's presence was welcome and one that was a pleasant surprised as the blonde looked up to see Riku sliding in the seat across from her ( ... )

It wasn't like he hadn't thought of looking after her at night. The idea that she was out there alone unsettled him, just as much as it bothered him to think of Kairi without him by her side. But it was different; Sora had no way of remembering Naminé, no strong tie to her that made him feel like he needed to keep her safe. Riku felt partially responsible, but he'd been too caught up in his friends' business. Learning about Kairi's recent Darkness and butting heads over business at night, he hadn't been doing a good job looking out for Naminé, as well ( ... )

The idea that Riku had been thinking of her, worrying about her safety and how he had been meaning to spend a night with her, was surprising to Naminé. Riku had protected her before - in fact, it was thanks to him that she had survived long enough to rejoin Kairi, when DiZ had ordered her death. So, in a way, it was sort of touching that Riku had extended his concern and protection beyond that. In that case, she wished to dispel those troubled thoughts. She wished she could have told him sooner, when it mattered, but ( ... )

[Senna's about to make this table for two.]The day was wearing on in cold and in silence, but even when the weather meant getting waved inside like an errant child, the vampire couldn’t dislike the rain. At least not now, not here. And Aidou had already seen what there was to see on the exterior of the town, it seemed; he’d gone around, surveying the extent of the damage, and had fittingly been spending time in the rundown park before the increasing downpour had started to upset the nurses ( ... )

[because can't get a better date than this chick. =P]Free food or not, she didn't manage much earlier. Though in the end, it had did as she expected. For the first time in days, she actually wanted to eat. About time, anyway. She was getting tired of that crap. So the girl stuck her good hand in the pocket of the ugly blue jacket and wandered off. There had to be another food place around here. Coupons said so, right ( ... )

Head lowered, it appeared like Aidou was taking more notice of the people within the restaurant than those that were coming in, but though he didn’t move his head, he peered in Senna’s direction from the corner of his eye as she finished conversing with the employee. She was moving in his direction ( ... )

Mmm, and back to the standoffish nature. She wondered if something had happened, or if this was just his default. She stayed standing for a moment, like it was a casual comfort. "Maybe," she offered.

It wasn't the main thing she had wandered over here for, but if he wanted a reason, she could provide. She shrugged with her good shoulder. "If you want business, I'd ask you about that ruined town. Went back there recently. But if you're busy, it's no problem."

She watched him for a beat. "Otherwise, I was just saying hi."

The weather and Mello's mood were worse than ever. It felt easier, somehow, to hold up that mask in front of other people. He'd been doing it, to a much lesser extent than this, for years. But alone in the rain--the nurse didn't count--the regrets he'd renounced on a day a lot like this one, getting close to exactly five years ago by his count, crowded in on him, as if eager to make up for lost time. Every instinct he possessed still recoiled from the idea of working with Near, even more so after last night. He unconsciously hunched his shoulders deeper, balled his hands into fists in the pockets of the ugly hoodie, at even considering that. No, it was his first principles that had taken a hit in that chilly lab. He'd been opened up, toyed with, like a marionette on strings, and the only way to live with that knowledge was to cram it into the deepest corner of his mind. It was only that it wouldn't stay there.

Stuck with the lie of finding someplace to eat, he stalked along, eyeing storefronts. Tasty Burger? Are you shitting me? He ( ... )

Sai had avoided contact with anyone after the incident with Sasuke. Every so often he'd raise a hand to his neck again, as though expecting to feel chilled hands there, ready to choke the air from him again... or perhaps something else. He'd felt nothing else like that since he'd almost passed out walking with the other ninja. What had that been ( ... )

Mello was still glaring at the menu when he heard the voice behind him, and looked back. Of all the people who could've approached him, Sai was one of the less unwelcome.

"Ha ha, very cute," he said, gesturing to the seat across from him. Company might put a stop to those looks the waitress kept giving him for taking up a table without ordering, and he'd been meaning to talk to Sai for some time. Since back when he thought learning a few fighting moves would help him escape, he thought bitterly, starting to raise his hand to the bandage on the back of his neck, but catching himself and checking the motion. It seemed like a hell of a lot longer than a couple of days ago.

"I would've found you yesterday, but. Something came up." Understatement of the year, there. Even being sedated seemed like it had happened to someone else.

Perhaps it was his imagination, but Mello looked a little more downtrodden today than he had before. Given the nature of this place, it wasn't entirely surprising, and the weather wouldn't be helping either. He took a seat where the man indicated, ignoring the menu completely.

"Did you need me for something?" Sai was curious to hear that Mello had been looking for him. With everything going on, Gai arriving, Artemis wanting his help, that... incident the night before, he'd basically forgotten about the blond completely. He wished Mello had found him yesterday, if it meant that he'd have headed somewhere else once night fell. He couldn't blame the other man, of course. He wouldn't have known what was going to happen. Who could have?

Sanae ducked into the Twin Pines restaurant without hesitation as soon as the nurse started edging toward him. Unsurprisingly, Neku had walked off in some other direction, thereby freeing him from the possibility of an awkward "Why are you following me around?"-type situation, and opening up the option of actually having coffee again. Oh yes. No hesitation here.

He wrenched the poncho off as soon as he'd gotten inside and folded it into a sopping but manageable square. The hostess gave him an odd look (well, they'd been giving the patients odd looks all day) as he walked by, dripping water, and Sanae cheerfully ignored her as he sat down at an empty table and dropped the sodden mess underneath the chair.

First things first. He ordered a cup of coffee and then leaned back in the chair to properly peruse the menu.
