Day 48: Lunch

Mar 11, 2010 01:21

Even with the nasty weather, Zack still felt refreshed after going outside. Humidity would have reminded him of Gongaga, but he wasn't sure he needed that. Not now, not when he wasn't even sure if he'd be able to get back home and see his parents again. Not that he should have the chance at all, but it was hard to think about nonetheless. Seeing ( Read more... )

Well, that had ... sucked. Bella walked into the cafeteria in a daze, still not believing that Honey was not only not a child, but was also her age! Why did he look and act so young?

The moment the smell of chicken hit her nose, the teenager realized how hungry she was, and instantly moved to the line to grab a plate of food. Sure, she missed making her own food sometimes, but she had to admit having food made for her on a daily basis (and not doing dishes.) was kind of pleasant.

... But of course, then she realized why she was being given food, and the pleasant thoughts instantly vanished.

Moving to an empty seat at a table, Bella instantly dug into her food, not even caring how animalistic she looked. She felt as if she hadn't eaten in days, and it was beginning to make her feel sluggish and tired.

It was now becoming second-nature to be rudely awoken by a shaking from his nurse and gruffly informed that he'd slept through several shifts. Though she was far from the woman he would much prefer to be awakened by, Edward simply fell into his human role by withholding his grumbles - a big feat considering last night was possibly the first time he had been comfortable for nearly a week. That was also considering he still had an inflamed wound preventing his torso from doing a lot of moving.

No, he wasn't even going to mentally complain about it. He still had not gotten wind of that boy he'd attacked. He was becoming increasingly worried about that. Had anyone found him after Bella had dragged him away? Had he been conscious enough to recall who had attempted to murder him? Had he been murdered?

It was with heavy steps he walked into the cafeteria, which perked up the moment he caught sight of his fiancée. And - most amazingly - she was eating, something she hadn't done, that he knew of, for days. Even such a simple thing was enough ( ... )

The arm around her waist was certainly welcomed, but Bella tried her hardest to show no sign of such a thing, and instead dropped the piece of chicken she had been chewing on and turned towards Edward with a quirked eyebrow and an amused smirk. "Oh really? Well, don't worry. I promise I eat dinner so you don't have to worry about me ( ... )

Though it was not necessarily her fault, his good humor evaporated with her words. "Oh, no. We wouldn't want me to be in pain or even mild discomfort. That would be horrible." So he slipped his arm back into his lap, no longer instilling horrid thoughts in innocent young girls. It wasn't as if he'd earned the injury from a victim's attempts at self-defense.

At least Emmett hasn't had time to rag on my melodramatics. That was a small silver lining, he supposed.

That thought sent his attention out into the room, scanning for the boy or his brother. Neither. Surprisingly, he was more worried for the former than the latter - Emmett wouldn't have allowed Edward to worry about him. A couple of decades and faith in his brother's ability to take care of himself had been firmly instilled, so he wasn't too unnerved by the absence of Em in the cafeteria. Maybe he was handling unconsciousness as badly as Edward was ( ... )

Bella turned and gave Edward a dry look at his sarcasm. "I don't want you in pain or mild discomfort, or even slight discomfort. So the point still stands." Turning back to her chicken, she took a bite and continued to look down. "But don't worry. The sooner you heal, the sooner everything will be okay," and at that she turned and looked up at him through her lashes, her teeth gently pressing into her bottom lip. "I promise."

Of course the topic of her own well being came up, and Bella shrugged her shoulders. "I'm fine. I know how to take care of myself, you know. Self defense lesson in gym, remember? I know how to bust kneecaps and noses."

Always with the worrying. Bella knew Edward was only thinking of her, but couldn't he think of himself for once? He was the one that was injured, and he was the one who should be the main target of concern. ... And yet he was still worrying about her.

Turning her head to look at Edward once again, the teenager smiled. "Can't you just worry about yourself for once?"
