Night 47: Sun Room

Feb 11, 2010 21:30

[from here ]The room was.... empty, as far as Battler could tell. It wasn't like he'd been expecting anything, but it seemed almost anti-climactic, in a way. Of course, that didn't mean he could rest easy, either. Whatever was supposed to be in here might not just be there yet. Large, empty rooms were never trustworthy without company. If the ( Read more... )

[from here]The room might have reminded her of any number of parlors Beatrice had sipped tea in, otherwise, but something felt...off. She shone her own flashlight around, finally letting it settle on a familiar red head of hair - and...what was that? There was something different about him, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was ( ... )

Did the people here really think it was okay to run wild? That they should really leave this place? When they made it clear what he had to do, Luke understood; this place needed to be protected, and those people needed to understand what was happening. It was stupid to try and leave. Not killing them was actually a relief, too. For as much as he would do what was necessary, he didn't want to have to do that when he had the Key of Lorelei again. Enough blood already rested upon its blade ( ... )

Even though he already knew that she was no longer in that sad state, it was a strange feeling seeing Beatrice moving around again. This very scene had already been denied by Bernkastel, yet, there she was, carrying herself with the dignity appropriate for her title. A miracle...? No, that probably wasn't the best way to think about it. She may have been able to function on her own again, but he couldn't help but wonder that she still wasn't suffering. They were both slaves to that new rule; there was no escaping the game so long as checkmate wasn't reached. In that sense, it continued even here, but that didn't make sense, did it...? This wasn't the board, so the rule had already been contradicted. How did it work, now that they were here? Under the legs of that uniform, would the same shackle be present on her ankle ( ... )

"You didn't answer my question." And that time, she did smirk, but she was more curious than anything else, and that showed in Beatrice's expression. She remembered what she had wanted to tell him, so...did that mean she had done that? And then...would she even exist anymore, if they left this place? If Battler had that ring, then that had to be the case. If that was the case, she wanted to...the words 'thank you' came to her lips, but she stopped before she said them.

Actually, she wasn't sure what she wanted. On the one hand, it would mean game over, and finally some peace. On the other...

"I suppose some things don't change." Beatrice laughed, and it was only then she noticed that Battler wasn't looking at her anymore. She turned to face the direction he was looking, clucking her tongue in disapproval.

Well, how rude was that? There was no need to threaten either of them. They were simply having a friendly chat - no one's head had been slammed into a table, no one's body had become a lump of meat, she hadn't even mentioned what ( ... )

When Depth Charge entered the the Sun Room, at first he wasn't sure what to make of the situation. Two patients waited by those cushy armchairs while another approached them in silence; it would have been an almost ordinary situation to stumble onto if the third hadn't been dressed up in some fancy uniform. So there was their armed guard for tonight.

The brainwashed patients here liked to talk before they tried to kill you. They'd probably caught the calm before the storm.

He definitely wasn't about to waste an opportunity like this. "C'mon," he muttered, sidestepping so that Kagura and Hime could get through the door. "Stay close, and stick to the shadows."

Depth Charge needn't be concerned. While Kagura wasn't a super spy like in the movies, sneaking around undetected was well within her ability. Her lithe body melded into the shadows, easily weaving in between the furniture scattered about the Sun Room like a mine field. There was no need to talk at this point. That would just draw unnecessary attention.

While it might not have been the most tactically sound move for Hime to go first, it was better than sitting around talking about who went first. Besides, a leader had to be willing to lead and her offer was more a show of confidence and determination than anything. If it had actually come down to her leading the way, despite her suggestions, she would have been sorely disappointed in both of them.

Stepping inside after the other two, Hime followed them in the shadows. Still, considering they had to open the door at all in the midst of the quiet, it was hard to think their entrance had gone unnoticed. If anything, the calm before the storm made it harder to make it through undetected. Hopefully the trade off would be making it through unscathed.

Would the man with the sword notice, or would those other two keep his attention?

That blonde woman and her friend were doing a pretty damn good job of keeping the redhead busy- not to mention he needn't have bothered wondering if Kagura was gonna slow them down, not with that kind of skill. She might not have looked as though she could throw a punch, but that kind of fluid stealth didn't come by without some kind of training.

Depth Charge edged around an armchair, throwing a glance back over his shoulder to make sure the other two were still with him- yep, there was Hime, and he could just about make out Kagura's shape in the shadows- before skirting towards the cafeteria doors. They opened, to his relief, with a soft, barely audible swish; with one foot holding the door for the others, he hurried in.

Indeed, a conversation was underway in the room. From the escalating voices, their initial suspicions were confirmed.

Nigredo quickened his pace, thanking whatever supernatural entity his overall tone was dark. Normally, he would have warned Klavier vocally regarding their circumstance; instead, he touched the man's sleeve and tugged: a sign for them to make their way to the cafeteria as soon as humanly possible.

Hopefully, he wouldn't notice the glint of metal Nigredo had seen. Hopefully.

Klavier shut his light off as suggested and followed Nigredo into the room. The thought of walking blindly didn't exactly sit right with him, but it was the only way to avoid notice. Originally, he had been keeping his focus on moving quietly and keeping an eye on the group. As far as he could see, none of them had noticed them at all. They were all still distracted by each other, the conversation starting to sound a bit more hostile as it went along.

Before he could dwell on that too much, however, Nigredo tugged at his sleeve, bringing him back to focus. Right. He couldn't allow himself to get distracted. They needed to concentrate on getting through the room before anyone caught wind of their presence. Finally pulling his attention from the group, he focused on quietly moving along the perimeter of the room, making sure Nigredo and he were never too far apart.

The problem with that statement: she didn't know exactly where. All she knew was the little she'd heard, in whispers and quiet rumors. When she entered the room, she turned, moving into the shadows. It was all too reminiscent of running through forests, not knowing who was behind or where. She'd done that more times than she could count.

"Where?"

The boy moved up behind her, then passed in a motion. Was she to sing and dance in the same pattern? He shook his head, the smallest motion. "Forward, then," he spoke as he walked by.

It was always forward.

There was some faint moonlight from the windows, but not enough to light their path and the flashlight beam made it a moot issue. Cloud stepped in first, motioning for the others to keep behind him by a good few steps. He wanted them close enough to keep track of, but not so close that anything attacking him would get them too. The blade he was borrowing from Yuffie was held low - ready to be used at a moment's notice, but hopefully not positioned in a way that would be seen as a challenge to anyone nearby. Perhaps there wasn't anyone nearby.

"Hello?" he called out, keeping his voice at a normal volume. Yelling hopefully wouldn't become necessary. If there wasn't anyone here, they could move through to one of the other locations Sheena had said to check.

It was hard to keep perfectly quiet in this blackness, especially when you were hefting another man's weight as well. Tifa's steps were short and jerking, unable to see and ascertain if anything stood right in front of her. She knew nothing really did, but her instincts were making her more cautious than really necessary as she kept her free arm out and swinging side to side.

The brunette did her best to give Cloud his space, but with such little light keeping him visible, she was growing worried they could and would be easily split up if something went wrong. Once her friend called out, TIfa stopped, holding her breath and listening for any signs that they weren't alone.

[from here]The moment he heard the sounds, he already unsheathed the Key of Lorelei. His new found resolve at letting all those people pass changed his mindset about this situation. There was no needed to tell them to stop, no need to hesitate. Even against Master Van, he wouldn't let himself hesitate, and that was killing someone who really mattered to him. Asch always yelled at him for not understanding what needed to be done, but Luke knew it all along. Master Van had been a problem and he needed to be stopped ( ... )

Nanaki had dawdled a little behind Tifa. He had a hold of her arm and was trying to get some balance while things were quiet. He stopped when Tifa did and watched a young man approach. The moment the first words had left his mouth, he was tugging Tifa back, throwing her round by the time the man continued and falling over in the rush, still holding her.
