Day 47: Doctor's Office 6 (Dr. Wilson) [Fourth Shift]

Feb 04, 2010 20:21

Somehow he'd managed to have a very calm morning. It wasn't often that Wilson met with two cooperative patients one after the other (a difficult one usually managed to work their way in somehow), so he was feeling refreshed and ready for his afternoon session ( Read more... )

He hadn't expected the nurse to come for him almost as soon as he was done with eating his lunch. He'd been surprised and that surprise had only turned to stubborn anger when she explained that he had a session with his doctor. He went more easily than the week prior at least. Wilson hadn't done anything untoward, just talked nonsense and asked questions about Hallelujah, but he was distinctly unhappy about it. He wasn't ill. He didn't need help. He didn't need to get rid of Hallelujah. How did you even get rid of a part of yourself? It was ridiculous. Why did they seem to think that this was a good idea anyway? Why bother with the pretense ( ... )

Just judging from that look he got, it didn't seem as if Allelujah's mood toward him had improved much. Wilson knew he hadn't done all that much to earn anything so far, especially since the patient had probably just taken his questions last week as threats (even if they weren't meant to be). Still, the man at least took a seat without any coaxing, even if he once again chose the couch so that he could stay at a distance.

Wilson just found it kind of funny that anyone could see him as dangerous in any way. He knew there were ways to be considered harmful other than just by physical means, but still.

As usual, the conversation starting was going to be left to him. More than that, the patient wouldn't even look him in the face. Wilson suppressed a sigh. "So, are you just upset because you're here or is something else bothering you?" he asked.

Something else bothering him? He was trapped in a hospital which tried to kill, maim and brainwash them, had made Lockon believe that he was someone else, had made him face Soma who didn't remember anything. He'd been injured mores here than he had in years. Yes, there might have been a few other things bothering him. But they were background noise, something that he'd adjusted to and accepted as the way of things and could be ignored for the most part, or dealt with, even if he was still stinging over his conversation with Soma last shift.

No, the doctor was the most prominent thing in his mind right now, natural mistrust showing through. "I'm stuck here and I don't need a doctor," he said finally, voice flat.

Which was more or less what Wilson had asked, but it didn't matter. He glanced to the side for a split-second as he tried to formulate a strategy for dealing with this particular patient. A good start was to think of what House would do and then do the exact opposite.

"Maybe you don't," he said, glancing back. "But the people in charge think you do, and so here you are." Allelujah could go on blaming him as much as he wanted, but his view was so narrow that it was almost insulting. Why only blame the one face you could see, the one person who was actually willing to sit down and talk to him?

"We can either talk about something - anything - or sit around in pointless silence. I'd really rather not do the latter," he said simply. Wilson knew that there was a time and place to be firm. If it just caused the patient to backpedal even more, then he'd try to reel himself in. But it was worth a try.
