Night 46: Kitchen

Jan 16, 2010 00:19

[from here]The kitchen appeared to be empty, but Kratos understood that initial impressions were usually incorrect. Through the dim light provided by the flashlights they had, he couldn't see anything lying out; everything was apparently tucked into the appropriate cabinet or drawer, which was how a proper kitchen was meant to be kept, but given ( Read more... )

Glad that their little detour had been short, Hitsugaya led the way into the kitchen. There was no telling what was waiting for them, and as leader, it was his responsibility to clear the way. He used his flashlight to scan ahead, but its range was limited, so he had to rely on his other senses and instincts to detect any danger.

The kitchen looked clean and empty. Anything that could be used as a weapon was out of sight, and while Hitsugaya would have liked to check the drawers, sticking around in one place increased their chances of being attacked. Besides, they had a mission.

Hokuto kept quiet, listening for any signs of nearby monsters; being alert was good, but outright paranoia really wasn't. The problem was, she hadn't been in the kitchen for a long while--but memories of seeing Hisoka's torn body hadn't faded with time. The blood was long gone, but she was sure she could still smell it.

Trying to ignore her pounding heart, she stayed close by her teammates and waited for orders... or any unhappy surprises.

They made it to the door to the walk-in refrigerator with little disturbance, and Kratos repeated his procedure on the lock to this door as well, slamming the hilt of his sword into it in order to shatter the brittle metal.

Once again he stepped aside to allow his teammates to enter first before sweeping in after them.

And here was the kitchen. With absolutely no one in it. Going over the wall was definitely a better idea than going through the Sun Room which always seemed to be guarded. Better yet, they'd even made a friend.

As soon as Mori was certain the area was clear, he started moving toward the pantries to collect the ingredients they needed - and a few things the little wind ghost could play with. There was no doubt she'd like some paper or flour to swirl around, so he brought extras of both. Mori wasted no time in lining up the baking sheets, bowls, measuring cups, spoons, flour, sugar and all the other things they needed on the counters.

Once he was just about certain things were set, he looked to Mitsukuni and waited for his cousin to give him further instructions on what sort of cake they'd be making. Was tonight chocolate or strawberry or something else entirely?

Once it was certain the that spirit wasn't a threat and actually did want to play, it was much easier for Honey to relax and simply allow his childlike habits to lead them onward. It was amazing really, just like watching Leon work his magic had been, as the door swung open and Windy stirred up little sticks and leaves. Honey found himself laughing too as he followed Takashi inside and waited for their new friend ( ... )

Once in the new and fascinating room, the sylph swirled around curiously for a moment, cabinet doors flipping open and slamming closed again as it passed. And then the tall one brought out things for it to play with; the childlike figure was again briefly visible as it tugged at whatever he was holding for a moment before letting go, giggling gleefully all the while.

It soon grew bored with that game, however, and moved on to where Honey was measuring out ingredients, finding this whole process highly fascinating. As he scooped up some of the flour the contents of the cup abruptly flew up and out, swirling around in patterns above their heads for a moment before dropping to fall on the kitchen like an odd snowfall.

Both the ghost and Mitsukuni seemed pleased to be in the room and Mori noted that with a mild sense of satisfaction. He'd been able to get them all here safely and now they even had a new friend. A new...somewhat silly friend. Mori glanced up as the flour came down like snow and sneezed once, shaking his head like a dog to get the flour of it. It was a good thing he'd brought extra supplies out after all ( ... )
