Night 46: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]Beatrix had walked this path to the Sun Room so many times, she could do it in complete darkness. Which was exactly what she was doing. Knowing the way, there was little need for light as it would only draw creatures and other unwanted attention. It was still quiet when she stepped out into the main hallway, the beam of her light shaking slightly. It'd been a long time since she'd made this journey all on her own. She could appreciate much more the comfort that came with making it with a friend.

The next hall wasn't far, so she tip-toed quickly, trying to stay aware of her surroundings as she turned down the next hall.

Teresa reached the base of the stairwell she'd indicated in her note to Giovanni and turned back to wait. Silver reflected in her eyes as the light from the flashlight's beam illuminated the immediate area around her. She did not know who this Giovanni was, but this particular spot was not one she'd noted as being a common meeting place.

The hybrid was one for brutal efficiency. This man had better arrive quickly. Teresa was not one for waiting.

Luckily for Teresa, Giovanni was even more punctual tonight than was expected of him. He made his way through the halls, finding the stairwell with relative ease - at least in comparison to the confusion he'd faced during his first night. As he approached, his flashlight caught a glint of something metal, and when he saw more clearly what it was, he couldn't help but let a smile pass over his face.

A sword taller than the both of them? Fascinating. It must have taken a great amount of strength to wield. If this was indeed his assigned partner, Giovanni couldn't wait to fight alongside her. Aah, or even against her, he mused. The thought was appealing, but he couldn't let himself get carried away when there was clearly business to attend to ( ... )

If only the length of bed frame was a sword. Soon enough, though, Teresa would have her claymore.

She'd been watching the passage of others through the hallway, alert for any that would be this Giovanni she was ti work with, so she noted the man when he approached. Her lips turned up in the faintest of smiles as he spoke.

"It seems your ability to visualize has not failed you," she said, her silver eyes assessing him. "Giovanni, I presume?"

"Yes ma'am." His eyes, hidden behind thick orange lenses, regarded her as well; he couldn't say he wasn't pleased at her demeanor and apparent strength. "May I have the pleasure of learning your name?"

No one in sight when she arrived. Good. Sakura smirked inwardly. She wouldn't be bested so easily! Not even for something as simple as the joy of being able to ask Raphael "what took you so long?" Sakura might not be the greatest fighter in her team, but when things got competitive, she didn't just roll over and let anyone take her spotlight. She could prove just how hard she'd worked to get where she was too! And when he got a load of her actual ninja clothing and saw how serious she was, maybe the brat would start treating her seriously too!

After another stupid, boring hallway, Raph hit the main hall and slowed down, keeping to the shadows while he scanned the area. He was supposed to meet Pinky (he knew her name was Sakura now, but thought Pinky suited her better until he could think of something more annoying) near a staircase--

Aww hell. She'd beaten him there and probably wasn't going to let him live that down. (The fact that he'd been planning to do the exact same thing was irrelevant right now.) He was pretty certain she hadn't seen him just yet, but Raph only had a couple of seconds to work with until then if she was a good a ninja as she claimed. He'd have to think of something to save face fast. Fortunately growing up with The High And Mighty Leonardo had gotten him used to that.

He slipped out of the shadows and shot Pinky an annoyed look. "What, you gonna stand there all night? We got a job to do, so let's go already."

Of course she'd seen him approaching! What kind of ninja would she be if he caught her offguard with something so easy? She rolled her eyes and tried not to be annoyed by his offhand comment.

"Wouldn't have had to stand here if you'd been faster," was all she said before she led the way to the stairs. If she'd memorized the map correctly (and in her mind there was never a doubt), then the room they were looking for was almost directly above them.

"Let's get this over with," she added, maybe not as sharply as she might have said it before. She might have acknowledged that he had some skill or at least had some determination or reasoning behind his way of ninja, but he was still a brat.

The previous hall might have been empty, but apparently this one was not. Ayumu had often noted people stopping to speak in this area, so that was hardly unexpected, but it still made her silent passage a bit more challenging. She carefully adjusted her hold on the bag she was carrying, making certain it stayed silent, while at the same time balanced the wrapped piece of cake in her other hand without squashing it, and concentrated on what she could see and hear in an effort to establish just where the others were in the hall.

Once she decided she had a clear path, Ayumu started to move on, careful and quiet in the darkness.

Okita turned the corner from the southern hall and stopped. As he suspected, there were a lot more people here, moving about, standing and waiting to meet others. He couldn't let them see him as he continued on toward the female block, not decked out as he was in his Shinsengumi attire, or it might attract attention to--

He smelled cake. The same cake he'd eaten so enthusiastically but 20 minutes prior. The smell of it was unforgettable, especially since it was strong - meaning the cake was whole. Who in their right mind would carry something that delicious around and not eat it?

Standing up a bit straighter, Okita scanned the hallway, stepping out a bit further into it, as he tried to catch a glimpse of whoever was simply carting their dessert around. If they didn't want it, maybe he could sidle up next to them during a meal and bum it off them.

If it hadn't been for that brief pause and step, Ayumu might not have realized that was Okita there in the darkness, but apparently something had caught his attention and allowed her to catch sight of him. She shifted her path to bring herself a little closer to him, allowing a foot to scuff against the floor as warning as she approached, making certain the area was clear enough before softly observing, "It's good that I caught you."

It was indeed - if he'd kept going, he'd have found only Yuffie and whoever else might have stopped by (there was no other reason for her to have stayed, after all, given how quickly she'd always run out of the room on previous nights) which would have been a little odd. If she'd missed him it likely wouldn't have been as bad, given that he apparently trusted his roommate, but he'd be wanting the things she'd found in her closet. She'd seen the bulletin post Homura left, after all.

He heard the footfall scuff against the floor and turned his head toward the sound, his hand hovering over the hilt of his sword. Whoever it was, it sounded intentional, but Okita wasn't going to take a chance in hoping it was an ally. At the familiar voice, however, he relaxed inwardly and dropped back a step, further into the shadows where they could speak with better privacy.

It was good to see Ayumu again, especially after yesterday. Losing her and then losing Guy had been difficult, more than he'd thought, so the sight of her now was relieving. He smiled once he was certain they were relatively alone and noted that the smell which had stopped him in the first place came from her of all people.

"Yes, it certainly is. We might have been boats crossing on the dark river if you hadn't brought that," he said, motioning slightly to the cake in her hand. "Saving it for anyone?"

A few people were already hanging around the main hall when S.T. got there. A statuesque blonde with a sword that had to be taller than she was. Using a flashlight as a personal spotlight. S.T. avoided eye contact. Same for the guy and a girl trying to out-asshole each other. Possibly flirting.

Whatever. Plenty of room to dodge by and head for the near stairs.
