Night 46: F1-F10 Hallway

Her three knives were lined up on the bed in order of size alongside her old outfit, with the wakizashi next to them; the Four Point was propped up carefully on the side of the bed ( Read more... )

Absently, Sheena took the long red ribbon from where she'd left it all dinner and tied it about her left wrist. She stared at the trailing ends for a long moment, not in any hurry to rush out of her room. It was common for her to rush out, and she didn't feel like doing anything she normally would have ( ... )

After lunch with Luxord, Yukari had predictably fallen asleep on a couch in the Sun Room once again. This whole awake all night and day thing was just so tiring. Dinner had been uneventful and Yukari had taken another quick nap after eating and putting on her purple dress and ribbons - all but one that was missing.

Well rested, the youkai woke up when the intercom went off. Uncharacteristically, she was out of bed quite quickly, no grogginess or yawning. She let the girl avoid her all day so far, but it was time to go find her and set things straight.

Quickly heading down the hall, Yukari burst in the room mere seconds after the head doctor finished talking, not bothering to knock. Hopefully the ninja hadn't been even faster.

"Good evening!" she announced brightly with a smile, standing in the doorway. "I'm here for one sulky girl who's been avoiding me all day!"

As the door burst open, Sheena instantly got to her feet and drew her hand back, ready to unleash her cards at the intruder. It was a good thing she caught sight of the purple dress and recognized the voice (her lit flashlight resting on the bed) in time to stop her throwing motion.

"I am not sulking! And that's a real good way to get exploded," she snapped back. "Do you even understand the concept of knocking? I could have been getting changed or something."

And then her brain caught up to her mouth, causing her to immediately turn away from Yukari. The dress... the words... was it really her youkai? She'd turned away so the brief moment of hope that had flickered across her face hadn't been seen. As things stood, she wasn't sure if she even wanted to look and see if it really was her youkai. The last thing she needed right then was to get her hopes up only to find out 'Violet' was pretending to be Yukari again.

"Go back to your room. I'm not babysitting you tonight," she said in a quiet, extremely controlled voice.

Yukari only laughed the girl's protests off; whether she trusted the girl's skills or her own, or perhaps just didn't bother thinking that far ahead, the threat of being accidentally exploded didn't seem to faze her. As far as knocking was concerned?

"Walking in while you're changing is half the point!" she said with a big grin as she stepped inside. Despite what she was here for, she gave no indication of noticing Sheena's unease or knowing the cause of it.

"And I don't need babysitting; am I not allowed to bother my favorite ninja?" she asked, coming up behind the girl and lightly laying her hands on her shoulders. Seeing as how Sheena was the only ninja Yukari knew at this time - certain play-acting ghosts aside - it wasn't a lie.

[ from here ]Yuffie had said... F4, hadn't she? Aerith hoped she was right as she picked her way carefully down the empty hallways, stopping a few times to check the room numbers as she went. After a few tries and turn arounds, she managed to find the door labeled. With an audible sigh of relief, the flower girl stepped into the doorway. She could feel butterflies in her stomach as she peered into the room. It wasn't that she was nervous. No, that wasn't quite it. Well, maybe a little. She'd been gone for a long time. Maybe she was more nervous about how Yuffie would react to it all. It really had to be more than a little weird to see her up and amongst the living ( ... )

Time ticked by, and Yuffie was wearing the carpet down further minute by minute. Seriously, give her another five, and there'd probably be a canyon. Right there. In her room. How cool would that be? she thought distractedly. Mini Cosmo.

Her plans were foiled by the sound of footsteps.

By the sound of a voice.

Yuffie froze. Just-stopped, before her head came up a fraction of a inch. This is real, she had to remind herself, her hands quivering by her sides. As real as all the rivers of Wutai. They'd spoken on the bulletin board; what more proof could she ask for? Nobody but the other Gaians would know who Aerith was, and none of them had the guts or the stupidity to try imitating her even in writing (hopefully; the Turks were always a wild card, but they were rarely suicidal). And Cloud-he wouldn't. Simple as that ( ... )

Aerith had expected something like Yuffie's reaction. It was heart-wrenching for her too to have this - a chance she never thought she'd have to tell people things she'd probably never been meant to tell them. Her smile melted into a sympathetic one, and she took a few steps toward her friend to close the gap.

"That's right." Aerith said simply. She paused, inspecting Yuffie's face to make sure she wouldn't run away or something. "I'm sorry. I know it's kind of hard to take, but..." She took a final step and moved to wrap her arms around the younger woman. "...I'm really happy to see you again."

Upon reaching his destination, Cloud heard voices coming from within and paused just outside the door. Right. It was Yuffie's turn to go through the impossible reunion. He wanted to give them time to talk without him around, but standing out in the hallway might attract unwanted attention they could do without. He knocked on the door, giving them time to realize he'd be coming in before pushing the door slowly open.

"Hey, am I interrupting something?" he asked with a smile, trying to keep the mood light-hearted despite everything.

Tsuchimiya seemed to be in better spirits by the end of the meal and Kagura wasted no time once the announcement for night sounded. She gathered up the pillowcase full of medical supplies, her flashlight, and the metal bat and waved goodbye to her roommate.

The hall felt a lot darker and scarier when Bridget wasn't there to hold her hand. But there was no time to sit and be afraid, she decided. Steeling her nerves, she hurried out into the night.

With a plan in mind, Teresa strapped the long metal piece across her back and stripped both sheets off her bed. Folding them, she used the waistband of her pants to keep them on her person then grabbed her flashlight, map already secured in her pocket.

Without a word to the youma she had been confined with, Teresa left the room and breathed deeply of the untainted air. She wasn't sure how long her patience could last before she let the instinct trained into her take over and killed that youma.

That seemed a waste. Sakura wasn't about to let time slip through her fingers. She made quick preparations for night, gathering her things and dressing in her old clothes. It felt so much better just to feel the gloves around her fingers and the way her ninja clothing fit exactly how she liked it. She zipped up the front over her mesh shirt, tucked her supplies into her pouches, and slipped the hand-axe into her belted skirt. It felt wonderful just to have a place to put everything.

She whipped her flashlight out and tied her hair up with the read head protector emblazoned with the leaf village's symbol. Raphael wanted to see a real ninja in action? Well he was about to get the surprise of his life tonight!

[[from here]]At least Raphael knew more or less when to keep his mouth shut. The journey back to her room afterward went by quickly and let her drop off the heavy texts. It might take a bit, but what she didn't read in her room in the morning and during meals, she could likely sneak a decent amount of pages into her journal for quick study throughout the day as well. And if there was one thing she knew how to do, it was study ( ... )

Raphael dropped his books off next to Pinky's (he guessed this was her room, but wasn't sure and didn't care enough to ask), then took a place near the door, leaning against the wall with his arms folded.

"So now what?" he asked. "We go get whatever it was from that friend of yours?"

Man this was a boring night. Things got more exciting on the ice cream runs he and the others used to go on. At least then it was pretty much guaranteed to get busted up by the Foot, the Purple Dragons, or someone else with a bone to pick. Of course, it always worked out so that happened when a fight was the last thing they wanted, and the times where Raph really needed to pound a punk's face into the dirt, there was no one to be found. So maybe this was working out exactly like it did back home anyway.

Well, if Raphael didn't mind tagging along, that was a different story. Sakura definitely preferred efficiency over wasting time, even if it did mean she'd miss out on kicking his ass. And he'd actually remembered her mentioning it. Which... given her earlier assumptions that he was a complete idiot, was enough to make her reconsider, if only slightly.

"Yeah," she sniffed, dusting her hands off. "M7. And then we're free to do whatever."
