Night 45: M61-M70 Hallway

Nov 21, 2009 15:03

"Commentary: The comms meatbag shut up quickly tonight! What a relief," HK said, standing up and grabbing his weapons. Scalpels were hidden up his sleeves, and his axe and his shiny new knife were taken in each hand. "Suggestion: If you are leaving the room tonight, it would be best if you come with me. I have infrared capabilities and therefore do ( Read more... )

The night came to a close and Geoffrey was about to climb into bed when the intercom switched back on and the Head Doctor spoke again. In a tone that he shouldn't have been using. Referring things that Geoffrey didn't understand.

And then something far worse happened.

The lights went out and the doors unlocked. The sharp click of the metal mechanism snapping open into the darkness resounded in the redhead's ears and he stared, horrified at this affront to his senses, to everything he thought was his reality. Kenny and Brainy had been right. They'd been right. Then what else were they right about? Monsters? Something else ( ... )

[ From here.]

Chekov walked down the hallway that should have contained Captain Kirk's quarters. One door was marked 'M70', and the next one was marked 'M69'. Logically, M66 should have been down that way, but the rooms (in his opinion) were organized so strangely.

He counted down the rooms in his head, shining the light on each marker, then stopped at M66. Looking to Commander Spock to confirm, Chekov reached out and knocked on the door.

"Ke--ahhh Bill," Chekov called, correcting himself mid-word. "It's Wv... Wvv... WVictor." No need to upset 'Bill' by saying that his 'delusions' had come knocking on his door.

Silence.

Chekov looked helplessly at Commander Spock.

Spock did not believe that catering to Captain Kirk's changed identity was productive, particularly when that required himself and Chekov to pretend to be people they obviously weren't. However, it was also true that Kirk had reacted in a somewhat upset manner upon being confronted during fourth shift. It was for that reason that Spock did not challenge the ensign's approach, though he did take a moment to quizzically raise his eyebrows at the way Chekov claimed to own a name that sounded foreign on his own tongue ( ... )

Chekov couldn't exactly quantify the chill that ran down his spine when he saw Commander Spock swiveling his flashlight around the room and finding it empty. Not even a roommate--which meant that Captain Kirk could have gone anywhere and they had no basic lead except "possibly outside". Chekov would have wondered incredulously if Bill knew that he could possibly die whilst wandering around a dark fake-mental institution aimlessly, but the question was purely rhetorical given that Bill did not know that he could possibly die whilst wandering around a dark fake-mental institution aimlessly. Also, this was not the time for rhetorical questions. This was the time to frantically search for his lost and possibly dying Captain.

"Aye, Commander!" Chekov said, straightening up at attention before pulling out his map again. Outside... outside...

"Zere is a Recreational Field back ze way we ceme and to ze north, sir," Chekov relayed, turning and moving at a swift trot back down the hallway. No doubt Commander Spock would follow.

Mori had been groggy at dinner, but he'd managed to finish it all. He wasn't sure what it was about this place that kept him in such a sleepy mood, but he supposed getting rest wasn't a bad thing. Besides, Mitsukuni had been able to play his game and they'd gotten along well with Chekov, so maybe--

Blinking, Mori poked his head out the door when the lights turned off. He could have sworn he'd heard the teen's voice outside, but when he looked, there was no one around. Hm. Must mean that people were moving quickly tonight. Grabbing the staff from his closet, Mori adjusted the sling around his neck and wondered if he couldn't just take it off by now. Probably best not to for a bit at least.

Nodding to his roommate, Mori slipped out into the hallway and headed off on his way.

Ethan had written on the bulletin board specifically to tell Harrison to stay inside, and Harrison had no intention of doing anything else - not because, of course, he was following Ethan's instruction, but because he knew he needed to rest, and besides, the Institute locked all patient doors at night, anyway. Even if he wanted to roam the dark halls, he knew he wouldn't get far. The memories he had to the contrary were like all the other memories he had since Ethan had started to twist them - flawed. Delusional. A million other words he was sure he could come up with ( ... )
