Day 44: Men's Showers, Second Shift

Sep 24, 2009 20:24

Okita had woken with a start, his breath coming back to him in a rush. Toward the end of the night, he had sworn he'd seen someone in the shadows - someone no taller than a boy of nine, a mask covering his face, blood running down his front. He'd seen him. There was no way of mistaking that outfit or that mask; and Okita didn't need to see the ( Read more... )

By now the showers weren't all that surprising. Yuuhi hadn't had trouble with them to begin with, but there were plenty of new faces that seemed surprised and appalled by it. He stripped quickly and left the necklace with the nurse ( ... )

Yue still wasn't accustomed to the fact that he needed such things as showers to stay clean, and though the rather fastidious guardian welcomed the opportunity he also saw both the necessity and the method as highly annoying. It always took far too long for his hair to dry afterwards, and stripping down to wash in front of other people was so...undignified. Yukito certainly didn't mind (being accustomed to that sort of thing, especially with all his time with the sports teams in school) but he was reluctant to allow his false self to deal with everything for him ( ... )

He'd seen Yue coming in and even if he hadn't, it was hard to miss the feel of his magic. That was one thing he couldn't just explain away. He glanced over, sending the other man a smile, even if he didn't mean it. He let his soapy hands sit under the water for a little while, keeping from washing out the wounds now that someone was paying attention.

And already he was asking questions. No "hello," no "how are you?" just a blunt statement with that same no-nonsense stare.

"Good morning Yue," he replied, "it's nice to see you're in such a good mood so early in the morning." If he was lucky, the teasing would be enough to send him on his way. But he was never much for luck.

There is something to be said for greeting someone before starting in on a conversation, Yukito observed, with a hint of amusement lacing the words. He was concerned about the wounds that he could now see, as well, but at the same time seemed a little distracted by the fact that they could sense a familiar presence nearby.

Yue gave an inward sigh and ignored his other self entirely, frowning at Fai briefly before turning back to his own shower. The stitches were finally out of that cut across his abdomen, so that was finally healing. Perhaps he'd be up to doing something useful again tonight, then.

"And why would you be avoiding Sakura? She seems to like you well enough." Not that she really seemed to dislike anyone, being Sakura. He glanced sidelong at Fai as he spoke, wondering if the man would avoid all of his questions. The answer to that was likely yes, but it was worth a try.

There were a lot of things Endrance hated about this place, but one of the things that was near the top of his list was being forced to shower with other people around. That said, he'd been making a habit of making things quick so that he wouldn't need to be there longer than he had to be. He took a spot at the shower head that was the furthest away from everyone else, and after taking a moment to let the hot water run down his back, he scrubbed up and changed, then, after letting a nurse bandage up the few injuries that remained, headed out and to the Sun Room.

"Mr. Irons, for the love of-" the nurse let out an annoyed sigh. "I know you dislike water, but the showers aren't going to bite you!" The woman might have more luck talking to a wall, because Scar continued his protests. He had been here for more than two weeks, yet his reluctance to shower hadn't lessened. He simply failed to understand how this ridiculous human ritual of getting wet could even hope to clean oneself!

Nonetheless, a burly orderly had no qualms with shoving the former lion inside the damp room. Scar had no choice but to move over to one of the empty shower stalls, though he didn't do much else but to glare at the shower head.

Though he knew the nurses wouldn't let him leave before he had taken a shower.

[OOC: Ahhh, sorry for the delay. ^^;; Also, um... time-skipping a bit to avoid canonmates (namely Gumshoe), at least for now. XD; ]

After the "friendly little chat" von Karma had just had with that suspicious Mr. Gavin, he was already eager for time to himself. But the blasted nurses would have none of that, of course. "Shower time!" one of them exclaimed cheerfully, as she practically dragged him through the Sun Room and into the men's restroom.

Very well. He had mixed feelings about this, however. On the one hand, it had been three days since they had allowed him to bathe. After all of the very recent events -- especially the zombie attack two nights ago and last night's slapdash fingerprinting -- he felt so grimy that it might as well have been three months. On the other...

He grumbled to himself as he saw how many other men were already in there. Oh, how he hated these infernal communal showers. He had no desire to look at another unclothed man... and even more so, he was loath to allow them to see him this starkly ( ... )

Someone deciding to take the stall next to him wasn't something that surprised Scar in the slightest. Spending a shift by oneself seemed to be more of an exception than anything else in 'Landels Institute'. However, the former lion was anything but comfortable right now with all the water and such around, and the last thing he needed now was some ignorant know-it-all to rub his discomfort in.

Of course, the individual slipping into the shower stall next to him just so happened to be someone fitting that description to a tee. Well, well. If it wasn't the ever so lovely von Karma.

"Indeed. I honestly cannot be more thrilled." He'd almost leap for joy at seeing the man, if only it wasn't for his supposed bad back. And possibly slipping on the tiles below his feet. And hyenas were among the smartest creatures he had ever met. Oh wait, had that been sarcasm dripping off his voice just now? Oh dearNot that it mattered. He had decided to stop being polite to the insolent fool two nights ago, anyway ( ... )

For once, von Karma was actually relieved to hear the voice of someone unwilling to mince his words. After the slick phoniness he had sensed from Mr. Gavin, this was refreshing -- and gave him perfect license to speak his mind accordingly. He had to admit to himself, the way the man described bathing sounded somewhat... questionable... and even a bit indecent....

"Bah. I could ask the same of you, Mr. Scar." von Karma's voice was dripping equal amounts of sarcasm. "At least rinsing oneself with clean, hot water is far more sanitary than..." Oh dear god. What he was about to say next? A mental image arising from what logically came next... No, he certainly did not need that thought. It was all he could do to maintain his composure and continue, "...literally licking one's wounds, using a microbe-laden tongue of all implements! Explain to me, Mr. Scar, how is that any more logical?"

Showers? With naked binomials waving about their exponents? Japan was one of the countries that supported communal bathing, but it was a function that Sho had done his best to avoid whenever possible. So it was when the nurse told him to strip and get in there with all the others that he was more than a little leery of the prospect. It wasn't until the argument escalated to the point of a pair of orderlies walking over that he finally acquiesced to the order.

Muttering strings of Greek letters and trigonometry variables, Sho stomped over to a shower, keeping his eyes on the wall and trying, for once, not to stand out.

ScScourge didn't exactly hate showers as such. They were just very difficult for him. Human bodies hadn't lost their hilariousness since the last time he'd seen a crowd of naked guys and he bit his lip as he stepped out in the shower room to keep from bursting out laughing.

Oh hey, it was numbers guy. It would be totally fine to laugh at him. Scourge kept his eyes above shoulder level as he wandered over and turned on the shower next to him, jumping back quickly to avoid the cold water. "Heya."

Sho, who had been just standing under the shower head with the water running down his body contemplating the safest method of retrieving the soap at his feet gave a bit of a jump himself at the greeting. Head spinning about (but body remaining firmly oriented towards the wall), his normal glare was looking less baleful and more like something one might see from a quadruped facing oncoming vehicles.

"...hey," he said after a .125 minute-long pause. Keeping a paranoid eye on the stranger, he carefully knelt and grabbed the bar of soap and the provided wash cloth before slowly standing again, as if he was prepared to be jumped at any second.

Numbers guy, being quiet? Either he was scared or someone had slipped something into his french toast.

"How's your day going so far?" he asked cheerily, testing the water with one hand. When it was warm enough he ducked his head under and shook out his long hair, running his fingers through it to clear out any detritus from previous engagements. He made sure to not look down at any point, or to close his eyes when he did it, but even then he knew they were down there and dangling and aaagh. A grin came unbidden to Scourge's face.

Recluse truly did not care for this shift. It was good to get clean, yes, but white tile with bright lights and echoing noise never made for an enjoyable experience. His still remaining anger over the events of last night made everything just that much worse.

Recluse closed his eyes, trying to relax. Things were going well in manipulating Marcus, at the very least. It was almost farcical that they both had to die in agony to get closer to something like trust.

The day thusfar had turned into a veritable rollercoster of moods for Hart, something he'd been sure that he'd left behind. No such luck obviously ( ... )

Someone was standing next to him now. Recluse opened a blood red eye to see if it was anyone he'd be required to converse with.

...Well. It was satisfying to see a reaction like that every so often. It was a little more difficult when he didn't have his spider limbs nor a general level of infamy surpassing all others.

"Yes?" This might actually become an amusing shift.

Proper speech and small motor skills up and evacuated Hart's mind on that single word, a feat not easily done since the group freak-out over the fate of Bart. But for now, he struggled to right his flailing inner-self, which only manifested in an ill-hidden and nervous chuckle.

"Un...um--hi." This attempt to smile without looking like a total freak went through somewhat passably and wrapped up just as awkwardly with him rubbing an arm, just to keep hands busy.

And he really, really looked dumb.
"Uh--eheh, dirt, you know?"
Real smooth, Hart.

But speaking of dirt, it hadn't been lost to him that a good number of people in the room had their fair share of wounds--many fresh. It didn't exactly detract from the monster theory he so vehemently wished to deny. Guess it was time to make friends.

"--you...been here long?"
